NPC Accountant killed in Anambra by stepson over N1m

An accountant with the National Population Commission, Awka, Anambra State, Mrs Theresa Okeke( 54) has been reportedly murdered by her stepson, Ekenedilichukwu Okeke(20) over N1m.

The state's Commissioner of Police, Mr Echeng Echeng who disclosed this, paraded the suspect on Friday at the command's headquarters,in Amawbia, Awka South Local Government Area of the State.



Parading the suspect along side his accomplices, the CP said the suspect arranged with his friends and murdered the woman in order to withdraw a sum of N1m from her bank account.

According to the CP, the police on 28th September, 2022 at about 0200hrs were alerted that one Mrs Theresa Okeke aged 54yrs, an Accountant with National Population Commission, Awka was gruesomely murdered in her residence at No. 4 Umuziocha, Awka

Echeng said, "Immediately the case was reported, her stepson, Ekenedilichukwu Okeke ,aged 20yrs ,who slept in the same house with the deceased was arrested for interrogation.

"He claimed that armed robbers stormed their residence and killed his
stepmother. However, after an intelligence based interrogation, he eventually confessed to the crime and named his accomplices.

The CP said, "Detectives from State CID Awka swiftly mobilized in search of the accomplices which led to the arrest of three additional suspects, namely; Peter Jideofor a.k.a Rider, aged 23yrs, Chukwuemeka Christopher ,aged 29yrs and Chisom Emmanuel Dike (22yrs)

"They have all confessed to the crime and disclosed that it was the deceased’s stepson, Ekenedilichukwu Okeke who contracted them to come and kill the deceased to enable them transfer the sum of one million naira from her account, having known her phone password.

The CP said the suspects would soon be charged to court accordingly.

Speaking with the press during the parade, Ekenedilichukwu said he took the action out of anger against her
stepmother for asking him to vacate the house over little provocation.

He begged his family, the police and the general public to forgive him.
