In England, lung cancer accounts for one in five fatalities annually and is the leading cause of death among cancers.

When told that his cancer had advanced from his lungs to his brain, TV anchor Jonnie Irwin made the decision to go public with his diagnosis.

The well-known TV host of shows like "A Place in the Sun" and "Escape to the Country" on Channel 4 and the BBC respectively revealed that his first indicator of a problem was fuzzy vision while driving in Italy in August of 2020.

The actor claimed he was "given six months to live" less than a week after returning from filming A Place in the Sun.

The National Health Service (NHS) recently ran an awareness campaign in honor of Lung Cancer Day on the third Friday of August.

Help Us Help You was created to reach the population at most risk for getting the condition, notably those aged 60 and up, as well as those who are hesitant to see their primary care physician.

These are the four symptoms and indicators that warrant a trip to the doctor right away.

1. Persistent breathlessness

Paula Chadwick, CEO of the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation, emphasized the importance of seeking medical attention if one experiences symptoms such as a persistent cough or shortness of breath. Do not delay.

Don't think it's okay to dismiss it as inconsequential. Don't be shy about asking your doctors questions. If it turns out to be lunch cancer, prompt diagnosis and treatment can save your life.

2. Recurring chest infections

recurring chest infections are a red flag for lung cancer, according to the NHS.

Tracy Bourne, a 59-year-old resident of Stoke-on-Trent, has been interviewed about her persistent cough that she first noticed around the holiday season of 2018. She became quite unwell with a severe chest infection in March of 2019.

She went to the doctor and got an X-ray, and then weeks later she found out she had lung cancer. She had lung tissue removed during surgery and is now healthy and doing fine.

Despite being sent for tests, Bourne initially dismissed the possibility that he had lung cancer because he had never smoked.

Just goes to highlight how crucial it is to seek assistance if you feel unwell. Those of you who are also dealing with a persistent cough, please don't hesitate to make an appointment with a doctor.
