Court: APC celebrates sacking of Azubogu ,calls him unlearned lawmaker

The Anambra State chapter of the All Progressives Congress(APC) is celebrating the the sacking and disqualification of the candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Chris Azubogu, by an Abuja High Court from contesting the 2023 general elections in Anambra South Senatorial District.

In a statement by the chapter's publicity secretary, Okelo Madukaife, APC said it had been vindicated, adding, "We share in the rebuke handed down by the court to Azubogu that it is shameful that a legislator does not know the law."

Madukaife's statement read in part,"Our great party is indifferent about who flies the flag of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Anambra South District on February 25,2023.

"We however celebrate our vindication, as a party, by the judgement of Federal High Court 5 Abuja, presided over by Hon. Justice Inyang Ekwo, which voided the nomination of a PDP member by APGA for the impending senatorial contest.

"Our dynamic chapter of APC had on April 29,2022 issued a statement countering the unfounded declarations of Senators Stella Oduah, as well as Hons Chris Azubogu, Lynda Ikpeazu and Okwuchuwu Ezenwankwo among other State Assembly members, claiming that they were decamping from APC to APGA, in the case of Azubogu and some others and PDP in the case of Oduah, Ikpeazu, Ofumelu and yet others.

"In response to the respective declarations, considered irresponsible and thoughtless, our party clearly stated that none of those legislators had vacated their seats in the National and State Assemblies.

"It was our take that those legislators which Anambra State ought to be ashamed of were recruited for 'an evil business in APC, in the wake of the 2021 Governorship election' before their mission was arrested by God.

The statement added, "We however add that these fading-out legislators in Anambra State including but not limited to Azubogu know the law, but elect to flout them mischievously because they enjoy the false confidence of being able to by their way through situations.

"Yet the same persons leave Anambra State without proper representation, confusing the duties of the legislature with the executive, counting 'attracted' projects, distributing tricycles and cash, while showing weaknesses in giving their constituencies a voice.

"By the express provision of Section 68 of the 1999 Constitution as amended, Azubogu could not have been a PDP legislator and APC member, nor a PDP legislator and APGA candidate.

"It is a well-deserved judgment that holds great potential to wake up the right sensibilities in Anambra State, develop the polity further and deepen political consciousness in Nnamdi Azikiwe's state .

While commending Hon. Nwankwo for activating the judicial process, APC said, "we look forward to his eventual defeat which would be a fair lesson to his party on the value of due diligence, by parties, particularly those on fringes of power."
