Abuja Hospital Denies Harvesting Teenager's Kidney by seborrhic: 10:52am On Nov 27, 2022
The management of a popular Abuja health centre, Alliance Hospital, has denied harvesting the kidney of a teenager whose elder brother accused the hospital of alleged organ harvesting.

The hospital was reacting to the allegation by a yet-to-be-identified man in a viral video that the hospital allegedly harvested the organ of his younger brother.

The man who was seen in the viral video outside the hospital building claimed his younger brother is a minor that cannot consent to an organ donation.

According to him, “This hospital does not have any right to remove a 17-year-old kidney and sell it.

“I am taking this issue up and will report it immediately to human rights officials.”

But addressing journalists on Friday, Chief Consultant Surgeon and Medical Director of the hospital, Dr Otabor Christopher, who refused to disclose the name of the teenager said the kidney transplant was done with the teenager’s consent without any cohesion or intimidation.

He said the hospital will commence legal action against the “young man who posted the said video for defamation of character.”

According to him, contrary to claims, the donor was 18 years and two months at the time of the surgery, adding that he (donor) was not financially induced to donate his kidney.

Christopher disclosed that the patient (recipient) also deposed to an affidavit stating that the donor is his nephew, adding that the hospital proceeded with the surgery which turned out to be successful after a positive compatibility and surgery fitness test were carried out.

He said the hospital has carried out 64 kidney transplant surgeries with 97 per cent of the patients discharged home after a successful procedure.

Just like I posted in the thread about the brother that made allegations against the hospital,I said that the whole issue and angts the brother has,has to do with them being short-changed in the financial aspect of the deal.

For the hospital to say the young man wasn't financially induced shows they are not sincere .. You people weaponise poverty and use small money to make young kids make irreversible mistake...this is the same problem ekweremadu us facing in UK yet this useless doctor says he want to commence legal proceedings against the the young men

The Hospital knows, the brother knows, everyone knows that in Nigeria and other poor Nations, monetary inducement is always involved.
But because it's illegal to pay for it,they get both sides to swear to an affidavit while the money changes hands under the table. It's like abortion:everyoone knows it's illegal, but medical practitioners still do it and people still solicit for it.
The donor and/family too see it,unfortunately and naively as a way out of poverty or to make some money to fulfil some needs.
In this particular case,it's clear, like i accurately theorised, that the brother and family either didn't see the money promised or got information that they were shortpayed, hence his social media cry.
If they were not truly in the know during the whole process that may have taken several weeks,if not months,as soon as he knew he of the procedure taking place, he would have gone to the police to report.
But he chose the social media because that's where he feels and knows the most damage can be done to the hospital. He may have even blackmailed them and when they refused to play ball he rushed to the social media, also knowing doing a formal police report would implicate him and his brother donor.

Regulating the social media maybe going to the extreme but if one has ever been at the wrong end of a false post on the social media, then you get to understand that the harm it causes is far greater than 100 blows death to the head.
It also is a lesson for hospitals like the one cited.Their rate of cutting corners in order to get that 1-5mllion for a single case is astounding.
They obviously neglected those other steps they should have taken or willingly knew all what the donor and recipient said or filled were false, yet hurriedly went ahead because they feared the client may decide to go to another hospital, making them to lose that money, to see if he could achieve the same aim.
