*Lecturers stage solidarity rallies at Unilorin, UI

Academic Staff Union of Nigeria Universities (ASUU) has hinted of a fresh crisis that would surpass all previous ones in the nation’s universities.

It therefore called on the stakeholders and well meaning Nigerians to prevail on the Federal Government to pay its members across the country their withheld eight months salaries.

The Chairman of ASUU, University of Ilorin branch, Prof Moyosore Ajao, raised the alarm on Monday at a special congress of the local branch held at the university’s main auditorium, Ilorin.

Ajao’s speech was read by the secretary of the union, Dr AbdulGaniyu Olatunji.

The university lecturers had staged a solidarity rally within the university campus before retiring to the auditorium where they addressed journalists on: “Casualisation of Intellectual Workers In Nigeria: Prelude To Our Response”.

And in Ibadan, the Ibadan zone of the Union protested at the University of Ibadan (UI), alleging victimization and double standard on the part of the Federal Government against it with regard to the suspended eight-month-old strike and financial discrepancies meted out to its members.

In his speech delivered during the protest, Professor Ayoola Akinwole, Chairman of the UI-ASUU), said that the Federal Government and its agents forced the ASUU into the February 14, 2022 strike following its refusal to honour the Memorandum of Action (MOA) signed with the Union on December 2020.

Alleging victimization, Akinwole noted that rather than addressing the demands of the Union, the FG “embarked on playing politics with the lives of Nigerians and moved quickly to stop the payment of ASUU-members’ salaries for seven months, leading to starvation and death of some members of the Union”.

Abeg make young people go dey learn one skill or the other if they can't afford private unversity cos u go the school self,no job and even uf u get the job,no pay or peanuts.when u get something doing, you cam further your education full or part-time.
As it is now, even the students that are on the receiving end self no know the dimension to follow, some are supporting fg while others are supporting ASUU.some students no even know the cause of the strike.

"My pikin no kill me, my pikin no kill me...much later, my Pikin no kill yourself".

If the FG did not drag ASUU to court, Universities would still be on strike.

I don't like Buhari but this is one thing that he has done that gives me thorough satisfaction.

Many students have their rents wasted, Medical students with 6 years to go have a whole one year added to their journeys, traders on campus who majorly generate incomes from the universities have to resort to other means, many students foodstuffs have gone bad and some have had their hostels burgled.

Yet, ASUU wants to collect 8 months salaries, very, very, ludicrous.

I believe ASUU who claimed to be intellectual were not acting with discernment. How can you go on 8 months of fruitless strike.

You only went hopeless and came hopeless.

You teach conflict resolution but can't resolve conflict.

You teach diplomacy but lost in a diplomatic situation.

You teach what you don't practice or can practicalize.

After failing to honour their agreement, they want to punish ASUU for going on strike. Senseless irresponsible government.

Some of these lecturers crying today were the very people that helped to rigged the election that brought these corrupt politicians to power.
As long as the politicians send their children abroad for studies, this issue will remain unresolved

I am not a fan of Buhari nor APC. But I am very pleased with Buhari for not paying ASUU their salary for the period they went on strike.
They must receive sense by force

Note this all of you...

It's either Tinubu or Atiku that will be the next President.

Both men look quiet on the outside but are ruthless and crafty.

Either man will cure the madness of ASUU.

We can't continue blaming federal government, incessant strikes by ASUU has very negative effect on Nigeria tertiary education. Even UK and other countries universities are benefiting so much from Nigerian students at the detriment of our own universities and foreign exchange. The strikes are always counterproductive but the ASUU want to eat their cake and have it.
The only time we hear of ASUU is when they strike, Haba.
