Kaduna
airlines operator denies
sponsorship
From NOAH EBIJE, Kaduna Monday, August 22,
2011 The Chairman, Chanchangi
Airlines Nigeria Limited,
Alhaji Ahmadu Chanchangi
has denied sponsoring the
Islamic sect, Boko Haram.
Chanchangi, at a press conference in Kaduna
yesterday, reacted to a
report published by an
Abuja-based monthly
magazine, which indicted
him as one of the sponsors of the Boko Haram in the
North. The conference, which was
jointly addressed by the
Managing Director and
Executive Director
(Operations) of the airlines,
Mr. Trevor Worthington and Alhaji Musa Chanchangi
said the publication was
not only false but
misleading because the
airlines boss is a
philanthropist who promotes both the
western and Islamic
education through a
secondary school he
founded where indigent
students of different religious faith enjoyed
scholarship. “We the management of
Chanchangi Airlines Nigeria
Limited, wish to react to a
publication in a magazine
headlined, ‘Boko Haram:
The Men Behind the Terror.’ On page 18 of the
magazine, our Chairman,
Alhaji Ahmadu Chanchangi,
was included as one of the
sponsors of the religious
sect. “The report is not only
false, it is misleading and it
is a figment of the
imagination of the
publisher, the writer. We
see it as the handiwork of mischief-makers who are
all out to tarnish the
reputable image of our
chairman, which he has
built over the years. “The
publisher threw professionalism to the mud
and went ahead to publish
a speculation in order to
sell his paper. In deliberate
attempt to cover up their
mess, the name of the writer or author of the
report was not included. “To put the record
straight, our chairman is
not one of the sponsors of
the activities of the sect
and he has nothing to do
with them. Alhaji Ahmadu is preoccupied with his
aviation business and
philanthropy works in an
effort to contribute
towards the development
of the country. “Contrary to the belief of the sect, our
chairman is a promoter of
both western and Islamic
education hence his
establishment of Gummi
Secondary School where indigent students both
Muslim and non-Muslim
alike are given
scholarships. “To this end, we are
demanding for an apology
from the publisher and a
retraction which must be
given same prominence
with the misleading report otherwise we will be
compelled to ask our team
of lawyers to institute a
legal action against the
publisher for libel as the
report defamed the person, character of our
chairman.
“We are giving him two
weeks starting from today,
August 21, 2011 to see to
our demands. “We are appealing to our
esteemed customers,
passengers and all other
business associates of our
company to disregard the
publication and see it as a tissue of lies concocted by
our detractors. As a
committed airline company,
we are working hard to
see to the needs of our
growing network of passengers. “Once more, we will like to
stress that our chairman is
not one of the sponsors of
the sect and, in fact, he has
nothing to do with them.
“His house is open to both Muslims and Christians
because of his
philanthropic and
accommodating life style.
60 percent of the
workforce of his company are non-Muslims and are
from different parts of the
country and the world,”
