Comedian and actor, Mr Macaroni, has criticised the first lady of Nigeria, Aisha Buhari, over reports of the alleged arrest of an undergraduate student of the Federal University, Dutse.

The Controversial Arrest

In June, 2022, Aminu Muhammed, a final-year student in the Department of Environmental Management and Toxicology, put up a tweet saying, "Su mama anchi kudin talakawa an koshi" (which loosely translates from Hausa to "the mother has gotten fatter by eating masses’ money"wink.

Reportedly, the student made the tweet to express his frustration over Federal Government's failure to honour its agreement with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) leading to the then prolonged strike action by the union.

Initial reports say that Muhammad was arrested by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), but Vanguard's correspondent gathered that the 500-level student was arrested by the police on November 18, 2022.

Mr Marcaroni Reacts

Following news of the arrest, the comedian posted a tweet chastising the first lady for abusing her power. According to him, Buhari should take the case to court, if she has an issue with the student.

Macaroni said: "Madam First Lady, you are not God!!! If you have any grievance whatsoever, go to court!!! You are not bigger than the Citizens of Nigeria neither are you bigger than the Law!! You should use your power to serve the people not Oppress them!! Free Aminu!!!"

In the same vein, he noted that former President Goodluck Jonathan and his wife suffered more insults from citizens and never abused their power.

"President Goodluck Jonathan and his Wife suffered so much insults," Macaroni said. "Even from people who are in this present Government. APC trolls curse and insult some of us here everyday. We dey chest am. The ones we can’t chest, we go to court! Madam First Lady, stop abusing power!!!"

Social activist Aisha Yesufu also condemned Buhari's action. Yesufu, on her YouTube channel, describing Muhammad’s arrest as unconstitutional and outrageous.

This is not the first time Buhari has been in the news for controversial reasons. She was widely criticised by angry Nigerians in September 2022, when she took to her Facebook page to celebrate the graduation of her daughter-in-law, Zahra Buhari, from a foreign university.

This post was hated and tagged insensitive as it came at a time when Nigerian universities were on strike.

If he makes criminal mailicious defamations,he must be arrested and prosecuted why not? No one is above the law!
Definitely no cyberbully deserves to walk about freely looking for who to devour and destroy.

We can not have different criminal jurisprudence for cyberbullies and offline bulllies
