Fire, on Monday, November 28, 2022, destroyed no fewer than 150 shops at the Kachako Central Market, in the Takai Local Government Area of Kano State.

The spokesperson for the state Fire Service, Saminu Abdullahi, who confirmed the development in a statement on Tuesday, November 29, 2022, said the incident occurred in the afternoon around 1.13 pm, PUNCH disclosed.

Abdullahi said, “We received a distress call at the Takai Fire Station at around 1.13pm from the Local Government Security Service Unit and we immediately sent our rescue team to the scene around 1.21pm to prevent the inferno from spreading to the other shops. The dimension of the market premises is about 2,000 fit by 1,500 fit. We were able to successfully save about 800 shelters from the fire.”

Abdullahi explained that it was suspected that the fire was caused by smokers as the day was a market day.

He, therefore, cautioned members of the public to avoid any act that could lead to outbreak of fire especially now that the harmattan season had set in.
