"He pronounced the defendant “guilty” on the five counts, and sentenced him to seven years on count 1-3 without option of fine and seven years imprisonment on counts 4 and 5, with option of N10 million fine each."

Misleading headline!!!

In other words, he is Sentence to Seven years imprisonment and he's to pay a total of N20 million naira fine for counts 4 and 5. And might even end up spending less than three years in prison.
It's still a win for Nigeria though.

Seven years on 3counts

21years

Will he return the extorted money to the contractor? If not, this is a travesty of justice. He would be in massive profit

Some edit.

Money extorted from the contract is 250m. He is to pay a 10m fine each on 2 counts which makes it 2Om

Therefore 250m - 20m = 230m

He is still to spend 7 years in prison based on 3 counts that carry no option of a fine

Are the sentences to run concurrently or consecutively? This will greatly change things.

The VC is not exposed like others who are professional armed robbers. He would have given professorship to one of the APC ministers and become protected for life. If I told you that lecturers are the biggest thieves don't doubt it.

He has I can tell you authoritatively because I know him very well. He's just unlucky to be caught. Corruption is bad.
