Heavy protest rocks University of Nigeria,Nsukka(UNN) as VC Prof. Charles Igwe increases School Fees by 100%

The University of Nigeria,Nsukka(UNN) management today released a new school fees structure that cuts across all levels Of the university. This came after a closed-door meeting of the school management and the SUG lead by comrade Abuchi Michael, of both campuses yesterday.

While this is a means to catch up with the current economic downturn of the country, the students have expressed their distaste and refusal to be intimidated and coersed into daylight robbery and extortion.

The student Union government of UNN has scheduled tomorrow 2nd Dec 2022 for a protest.

You cannot get quality education without anyone paying heavily for it. ASUU wanted the government to pay for it but even the students didn't see it as a reasonable thing to do. Many used every avenue to insult their lecturers. Let them protest till tomorrow, if the students like, let them got sit at home in protest... The current wave of fees increments will go round and has come to stay. Let them take their protests to ASO rock.

Education is expensive

Proper funding of education was one of the reason ASUU embarked on strike. Instead of Nigerian students to support ASUU, they instead align with FG. So expect more increment

Just yesterday, I paid for the fees for my newly admitted daughter in that school. The fee increase isn't that bad.
Let's face reality, education everywhere in the world doesn't come cheap. Someone said the Northerners don't pay that much, but how many of them have access to the higher institutions compared to their population. Schools in the North are still populated by southerners.

In their almost 7 months strike, they said they were fighting the course of Nigerian Students.

Buhari is a better devil... I still maintain that these Dons were at the Frontline of the failing system you and I experience in this country.

They spoilt the educational system, they spoilt the electoral system.

I was told recently that school fee (minus accommodation) at Ife (OAU) is around N25k!

Some will say cheap school fees are their entitlement, and any attempt to increase it must be resisted.

Yet, they also complain about poor facilities, and poor pay for lecturers.

You can't have it both ways. It's one or the other. Reasonable tuition fee = reasonable facilities.

You condemn the country and rush to japa to UK or Canada where you are happy to pay £15k in tuition fees, which is about N14 million! Yet if they increase fees here to N80,000 (less than £100), you chase the school administrators out of campus and demand that the university be burnt down

We want federal government to subsidise everything - University, food, petrol, transport, housing etc On top of that, federal govt must also give free loans that people don't pay back. Haba!

We are refusing to face reality.

This is preposterous! Absolutely insensitive to the plight of people. It doesn't make sense to do a 100% tuition fee increase knowing that the economy is biting hard on majority of Nigerians. If the University is looking forward to increasing their IGR, there are gradual and better ways of doing that.

Increasing the School fees I have no problem but by 100% I don't support it.

I'm sure if that school was managed by a trader this wouldn't have happened as the trader would have raised top academicians who will be selling research materials to fund the school
