ASUU said that their demands from Federal government should be extended to state universities, when it is obviously obvious that state universities are funded by their respective states and not Federal government.

So if the demands are to be met by the states, either the states demands more allocation from the Federal government which is highly unlikely, then hiking the tuition fee is the alternative.

I saw this move long time ago during the ASUU long strike.

Increament of school fees is eminent in education sectors across the world but the way, manner and attitude of communicating it to parents and students in Nigeria is a big problem. What is wrong in mailing all the students and guidance a year or 6 months ahead of implementations? Explaining the reasons why the action need to be taken. It appears we lack understanding as a nation.

undecided

Nigerians and entitlement mentality...those students should know that tertiary education is not compulsory...the law only recognises 6 years primary and 3 years junior secondary as compulsory.

If those going to study with contemporary universities abroad can dole out between 12 - 15 million for masters programme of just one year plus such little increase in tuition fee in Nigeria shouldn't generate such baseless protests..the universities need such funds to augment their running costs afteral the effects of inflation cuts across all strata of life.

Such meaningless protests and agitations alongside other government inconsistent policies are at the very core of our universities inability to rank favourably amongst their peers globally.

The painful part of the story is that the people who are increasing the fees are mostly ones who acquired their education through scholarship.

Fed uni need to increase tuition. Long over due. Those student protesting are using expensive phone, going to trips, and other luxurious life. When it comes to paying increments, they go about protesting.

Hmmm.

Nigeria still has a long way to go. Quality education isn't cheap. It's why students in America are saddled with student loans.

In countries like Norway and Germany where they have free tertiary education, the citizens pay for the quality education through heavy taxation and many Nigerians don't even pay tax.

Many business try to evade tax. Talk to a company about withholding tax and see how they'll act as if you're robbing them.

We just have to pick our battles last last.
