The former chairman of Ushongo Local Government Area, Joseph Asawa, claimed that Governor Samuel Ortom sponsored an alleged attack on supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party's presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, in Gboko. However, this claim has been refuted by Mr. Nathaniel Ikyur, the governor of Benue State's chief press secretary.
