"My Favorite Nigerian Character in a Book” is a sponsored contest to have fun and have us think about some of the Nigerian characters we’ve encountered in books.

Dates for Contest:

Submissions open August 28 – September 7.
Longlist Published September 8 – September 10
Voting – September 11 – 18
The winner will be announced by September 20.

Prizes:

There will be one (1) overall winner in this contest for a prize of $100.

There will also be 2 consolation prizes of Myne whitman’s A Love Rekindled.

Contest Guidelines:

1. Register at Naijastories. com and log in.

2. Make your submission as a post on the website with a title that defines your entry.

3. In the body of the post, provide the following;

a, the name of a Nigerian character that you want to write about,
b, the book title and author’s name,
c, a description of the character in the book, what the book is all about and what the character tells you about the book author and about yourself as the reader (why do you identify with that character?). You can pick any book, and we mean any book, even books not written by Nigerians – as long as the character is Nigerian.
d, your real name and location.

4. Your entry should be between 200 – 350 words.

5. Put the entry in the category of “My Favorite Nigerian Character” and press the button, “Submit for Review”.

Contest Procedure:

Naija Stories will have 2 stages for determining the winner;

Stage 1. The NS editorial team will longlist the most suitable of the entries.

Stage 2. Popular Votes. At this stage, those who passed the first round can invite friends to vote for their submissions. The top entry will win the contest while the next 2 get consolation prizes

Judging Criteria:

- The first round judges will be checking for clean use of the English language so polish your grammar and keep typos to a minimum please! We will also be looking for creativity, so go on and give it your all. Be genuine! Be unique! Be original! Use this as an opportunity to acknowledge that your favorite character, the book and the author.This is a contest for readers but most of us are writers too so treat it like a writing exercise. You do not know who is reading.

- The best entry will be left to the readers to vote for.
