The world might enter a new recession in 2023

Energy crisis everywhere

Inflation everywhere

Many countries defaulting in loans , debt and bonds

Labour strike here and there

EU, NATO, Ukraine vs Russia

Post COVID 19 Economic crisis

Story! When they couldn't even make a down payment on the roasted corn of that transmission.

The cost of diesel has gone up.

Would it have hit us badly like this if our refineries have truly been turned around despite gulping billions of Naira.

Who would have thought Buhari-Osinbajo government wouldn't have built a single refinery in about 8 years now?

Even if the government had built several refineries
thesame enemies of Nigeria who convinced late President Yaradua to return Dangote's money after
he has successfully purchased Port Harcourt refineries would have sabotaged the running of the refineries.

An oil-producing country complaining about "High cost of diesel"

How much more shameful can it be??

There is nothing shameful about it. It is economic reality. Nigeria does not control price of crude in the global market. Even as an oil producer there is something called opportunity cost. I cannot have the opportunity to sell my crude at $90, onlybcome sell at $30 for the sake of cheap local diesel.

High cost of diesel globally is a problem caused by many external factors such as covid, energy transition, rebound of global travel, Ukraine war etc

That may not still put confidence in Nigerians using the train service.

Just travel from Kaduna to Abuja or vice versa during the day. Avoid late evening or very early morning journeys on that route. Simple

I hope they have security mounted every where on that road especially during this festive season?

usually follow train from school to lagos back then....it was fun and cheap, and most times breaks down in middle of nowhere, no kidnappers to be scared of in the forest then. it was my highlight of end of school session back then.

Mister, What exactly are you saying?
This has Absolutely NOTHING to do with Opportunity Cost
Nigeria was the leading oil producer in Africa as of 2021. Oil production amounted to roughly 78 million metric tons in the in the country.
How can you complain of "high cost" on your own NATURAL RESOURCE?

Nigeria has three state-owned refineries, NONE of them is functioning...

And you say Opportunity Cost?

Of what use is the train, if it's too expensive? I believe the aim of a train is to convey more people at the cheapest price possible. Nigerian leader are really visionless.

So #2600 when diesel was around #280 per liter isn't cheap..
Today diesel is over #750..you still want NRC to charge #2600..

If tomorrow you hear things like train stoping half way cuz of fuel management or the whole system collapsing cuz of lack of money for maintenance..you will go around wailing...

It is you that don't have vision

Your consign shouldnt be to charge at the cheapest price..but at the price convenient to run the system and ensure proper maintenance..

You did not understand what you quoted..

Nigeria being a major oil producer or not.
She doesn't control the price of crude..if we had working refineries fuel prices will still be close to what we have today . excluding the inflation attached to it due to scarcity

God bless you for this...

If Dangote had be allowed to take over pH refinery..trust me by now..import of fuel would have been history...

He would have completely rehabilitated and expanded it..and probably bought more moribund refineries..

Just look at how he bought and transformed Obajana cement plants and benue cement company..all were moribund under government

So because something is a natural resource means we should fritter it away abi! This has everything to do with opportunity cost. Thatbis basic economics. The opportunity cost of cheap subsidised petrol or diesel is the hospitals that aren't built, schools, roads, bridges, airports, ports etc that are not built to make Nigeria competitive in the global stage.

Are you minding him. They think crude oil is free. Why would NNPC give crude to refinery for free and forego the chance to earn $80 for it? Natural resource or not!? When is not like its unlimited in the ground. The only benefit of local refining is jobs, industrial development, less import and its benefit on Naira, and no shipping costs.

Or you think Shell or Chevron will sell their share of the crude production to Nigerian refineries at less than global markets abi?
