The Problem With Cameroonian Education by Kipaji: 12:42pm On Dec 05, 2022
Education in Cameroon was formed in the middle of the 20th century, mirroring the colonial powers’ systems with some superficial adjustments. Sixty years later, it has not substantially evolved despite the significant changes in technology, the job market, and the socio-political sphere in Cameroon and geopolitics. This is partly because the government does not collaborate tightly with teachers and researchers who have a deeply supported understanding of our realities and the actual potential of education. Consequently, Education in Cameroon is highly obsolete and irrelevant in our context. This, I believe, is the most profound and critical difficulty Cameroon faces in regards to Education. This is why I believe very strongly that thoroughly rebuilding and tailoring Education to Cameroon’s socio-cultural, historical, paradigmatic, and economic realities would be the most relevant and impactful change in this area.

Education in Cameroon does not build deeply-rooted Cameroonian citizens ready to face the country’s challenges, but numerous disoriented people, practically unknowledgeable of their country’s background and current realities.
Furthermore, the system failed to make the learner understand the (non-material) values of education. In effect, their personal development is overlooked as education is too much centralised on grades, with little to no extracurricular activities. It follows that students see education only as a means to get a job, and not as an enriching journey of self-discovery and personal growth. And many get frustrated when they do not even land that job.
Personally, I firmly believe that the future of a country resides largely in its ability to provide quality and efficient education to its youth. This means building an educational system considering its socio-politico-economic particularities, and modeled around its core values and long-term objectives. That is why if I could change one thing in Cameroon, it would be its educational system. That way, I would contribute to the development of a proactive, open-minded, reflective, and deeply-rooted Cameroonian population.

What about Nigerian education? Would you say that it is adaptive? How relevant do you find it in regards to the current and future issues the typical Nigerian faces at the personal, social, national, and international level?

@ischoolconnects, You should seriously rethink your marketing. Spamming threads to promote your content does not work, especially in the long run.

Here is how you could have made it better:

Great post, Kipaji. Even the Nigerian educational system is not the best. In general, our educational systems in Africa have several issues that we must address. In that vein, it would be helpful to look at the systems that are working in the world and take example. One of the global references in terms of undergraduate education is New Zealand. Besides being a beautiful country, New Zealand has been recognized for the quality of its universities and the graduates they produce. And you know what? We can benefit from their world class education! Check this out, man.

See the difference?
- This post adds value to the thread
- It does not look like a spam
- It truly incites readers to click on the link
- It feels authentic
