Every time you surf the internet, your browser history gets tracked. This tracked data helps multinational technology companies like Google and Facebook earn billions and billions of dollars in a year in advertising revenue. They use your personal information to target specific adverts for you.
For example, if you're browsing online fashion retailers to buy a new jacket eventually adverts for the latest trend in jackets will start popping up on your computer screen. Everyone has seen this happen before regarding whatever item we are considering buying.
A study conducted by the Irish council for civil liberties(ICCL) found that the average European user's data is shared 376 times per day, for US surfers this almost doubles to 747. This raises concern about how our online privacy is being threatened by big tech companies constantly spying on us and stealing our data.
However there looks like there will be a way for people to have more control over how much of their data is being shared last year the Canadian tech firm launched a browser that keeps people's online data in their control and rewards people from surfing the internet.
The way it works is that it bypasses big tech sites like Google and instead sells your data to retail brands.
