The Governor of Ebonyi State, Engr. David Nweze Umahi has described Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State, as one of the best universities in Nigeria in terms of quality of academics and administration.
He stated this during a thanksgiving service organized by the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof Sunday Oge Elom, to appreciate God for His tender mercies and extravagant grace in his life. The event was held at the Grace of God Mission, 23 Ikenga Street, Abakaliki on Sunday, 4th December, 2022.

The Governor who was represented by the Deputy Governor, Dr. Eric Kelechi Igwe noted that though the University is one of the youngest universities in Nigeria, yet it is also one of the best universities in Nigeria.
He noted that the Vice-chancellor since assumption of duty has maintained the culture, ideals and glory of the University in terms of the seriousness of its academic activities, praying God to see him through in his tenure.
While speaking during the service, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Elom, advised the congregation to surrender their lives to God, for without His intervention, he would have died. He also stressed the importance of having good relationships with people and tithing in the race to make heaven.


He further used the opportunity to thank the team of Neuro-surgeons, medical doctors and nurses that attended to him at the hospital, praising them for their professionalism and expertise. For their consistent prayers and support during the period, the Vice-Chancellor also appreciated the members of the Grace of God Mission especially Bishop David Ubanatu and staff of the University. He specially thanked his wife, Dr. Mrs. Chinyere Elom, whom he described as his strength for her support, love, care and prayers, asking God to bless everyone in good measures.

Dr. Mrs. Elom who was visibly elated, in her speech that was punctuated with songs of praise, thanked God for preserving the life of her husband despite the severity of the situation, adding that God connected them with the right people during the ordeal. She also appreciated all who prayed, called and sent encouraging messages to strength them in those trying times.
After the Church service, guests were treated to sumptuous meals and choice drinks at the popular Nkwagu Ugbala Grand Arena where the Department of Music of the University performed.


The event was graced by many dignitaries including politicians, the academia, government officials, traditional rulers and friends and family members.
