Re: Yewande - From England. by Yewande3(f): 1:43pm On Mar 01, 2006 |
Thanks alheri Rhodalyn and queen2 Im mother to three by the way, married and work for the government. I changed my name by deed poll from my English name to this one I loved it so much and know what it means I changed my entire name to a Yoruban name I may visit Nigeria one day with a female friend of mine from there but Id be out of my depth if I came alone I think, I find Nigerian peope very friendly you have culture that is very different to mine ( I dont know if I even have a culture)and Im learning as Im keen to know more, I dont want to offend anyone, there is the prostrate greeting custom I dont l know if I could do that howe imoportant would that be if I came to visit there? . I read on here in the travel conversations there are bodies in the street fighting and corrupt government can this not be sorted out? it seems a shame as genuinely I find the people from Nigeria here in England (and on here from what Ive read) to be god fearing honest with high moral values so how can this happen? My friend never mentioned this to me but Im a bit alarmed, is this all true? . |
Re: Yewande - From England. by alheri(f): 3:36pm On Mar 01, 2006 |
dont worry about the corrupt government and the fighting, it wont affect your visit. Just amke sure you dont go to maiduguri, onitsha or any of those states rioting. You can come to Lagos. Its more peaceful, though you have to be careful with the area boys. We Nigerians are known to experts in the suffering and smiling business. So you'll have fun when you come. Also, since youre not Nigerian, it wont really be held against you if you dont do the postrating thingy. Just feel free and enjoy yourself when you get here. ciao |
Re: Yewande - From England. by Yewande3(f): 3:43pm On Mar 01, 2006 |
Thanks for that advice alheri I do believe that when in Rome you should do what the Romans do but Id have a problem with that! In this country men and women are equal in fact Id not even curtsey to the queen as to me ALL are equal However if she curtsyed to me I would of course yet I somehow doubt she would LOL Nigeria does sound like a nice friendly place! |

Welcome to nairaland Yewande, your name just reminded me of a classmate of mine years back. Nigerians are friendly people especially to foreigners so feel free anytime you want to come here, don't mind those media reports they are exaggerated most times. |
