Over 20 Benin Firms Connected to Ossiomo Power Plant.

Benin City, Nigeria

Over 20 companies operating in Benin City have been connected to the 95MW Ossiomo Power Plant, the power generation and distribution company midwifed by a Memorandum of Understanding between the Edo State Government and Ossiomo Power Company.

Edo State has continued to witness an influx of private businesses since the power plant came on stream, with many companies opting to leverage the power advantage to expand their businesses and boost production.

The 95MW Ossiomo Power Plant is located at Ologbo, Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area, and provides power to the Benin Enterprise Park. It also powers government buildings and establishments, including hospitals, the secretariat complex, Government House, as well as the state’s street lighting project.

The Managing Director of Ossiomo Power Company, Dr. Uwa Igiehon, said the private companies were enjoying stable off-grid power supply that ensured their machines and businesses did not suffer disruptions.

He said, “We have onboarded over 20 power companies in the last few months as lots of persons have now come to accept us as the most reliable alternative for stable electricity. We are providing businesses along Benin-Sapele Road and neighbouring areas with stable power. These businesses include manufacturing companies, hotels, industrial clusters, among others.''

“As we expand our distribution capacity, we would welcome more businesses on our system. This shows that, indeed, if we are committed we can solve Nigeria’s problems, as we have shown that we have the capacity to provide stable power for use by both public and private companies who are contributing to the growth of the economy.”

Is that why BEDC is currently performing below average in Akure? They have lost major customers and are getting cash strapped and no longer afford to buy electricity for distribution. Here in Akure, it's an hour daytime and 2 hours between midnight and 5 am daily

Each state should build at least ONE power plant, in partnership with the private sector, just like Edo state did.

This thing cannot be down to Abuja alone to solve.

State govts need to step up.

I think this is the way to go if Nigeria must enjoy uninterruptible power supply. Aba already has a huge private power plant built by geometric.

I'm even more surprised that Lagos doesn't yet have such power plants considering it's supposed to be the country's economic capital.

And who are you that they should waste their time to be listing the companies' names, just to convince you?

Your belief or otherwise is immaterial.

They're not there to impress you.

The govt house, Secretariat, stadium and most street lights are powered by the plant.

Kudos anyways.

This is the sort of thing they do in Holland, where small communities co-operate to build power supply via renewable energy or hydro plants that produce off-grid power, and any extra they generate they sell to the grid.
