"One Upon a Time,” a narrative poem by Gabriel Okara, portrays the identity and cultural crisis in the African society as a result of colonization and the Advent of Western culture.

The poem depicts the unfortunate erosion of good values that has occurred in society over time and its harmful effect on the life of an individual as he grows from childhood to adulthood.
