On Thursday the 22nd of December, Prof. Banji Akintoye, the former head of Ilana Omo Oodua Worldwide, the apex body of the Yoruba self-determination struggle, provided explanations for his resignation in a letter.

The previous head of the Yoruba Nation turned up power to his former deputy, Prof. Wale Adeniran, citing his advanced age and a weakened body system as reasons for his resignation.

Akintoye clarified that he did not quit his post to avoid taking responsibility for the turmoil roiling the self-determination group in a letter sent to Adeniran.
