WOMEN AND SEXUALLY PROVOCATIVE DRESSING

When a woman appears in a public space wearing an attire that exudes sex, what does she have in mind? Is it for people to see how well endowed she is or to stir the spirit of lustfulness which hitherto, has been lying dormant?

In today's society, it has become almost a norm for women to attend functions as lecherous conventioneers: they appear in a function either to show how petty they are or try to change the direction of the event. Either ways, sexually provocative dressing is dangerous. Some may wonder why this is dangerous. A provocatively dressed woman leaves a dirty image or impression on the mind of people; she can also be a source of distraction and temptation. Such women can cause good men to conceive and nurse lustful thoughts. Against this background, her victims who are majorly men can be distracted from accomplishing the task ahead of them such as; work, education etc.

Sexually provocative dressing has become a very serious social problem. In every corner, provocatively dressed women are there to harass members of the society especially, the menfolk. If they are not wearing skimpy clothes revealing the shape of their buttocks then, it must be that which looks as if their breasts are struggling to escape from a cage. The most disturbing aspect of this problem is that the married and elderly are involved in this madness. Sometimes, it looks as if these married women are in a fierce contest with the young ladies. Encapsulated in this unwarranted rivalry, they sometimes forget themselves and appear in a formal and religious gatherings wearing sexually provocative attire. In such situations, the atmosphere becomes quite tense and uneasy as people begin to struggle against themselves not to look at the source of the uneasiness.

Recently, in one of the churches, a married female choristers, during her ministration got the church members shifting uncomfortably in their seats because of how sexually provocative her attire was - the dress she wore was so short and tight fitted that all her contours were revealed. Rather than listen to the song she was ministering, her body got in the way and misdirected the mind of majority of people who came to worship God.

Irrespective of what a provocatively dressed woman says, her goal, consciously or unconsciously is to sexually arouse men. But she must also bear in mind that, by appearing in this manner, she runs the risk of attracting unwanted sexual attention because it is presumed that she has made a significant overture by revealing how succulent she is. No wonder the rate of rape cases is on the steady increase. In order not to become victims of sexual harassment, women must desist from sending wrong signals through their outfit. The only way to do this is to appear in good, modest and conservative attire.

Considering the negative impact of sexually provocative attire on the society, it is imperative that the family and other social institutions like; schools, churches etc monitor and, to a reasonable extent control the type of attire that women wear - salacious clothing should be outrightly discouraged.

Removing this distraction will help everyone keep their cool and remain focused
