A vehicular mishap during the day 5 Bikers Parade at the Calabar Carnival, claimed the lives of over 7 people, while scores were left injured.

The vehicle, running at a high speed, ran into a crowd of onlookers, killing many on the spot, with some unrecognisable after the accident.

The injured were rushed to the Naval hospital and the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital for urgent medical attention.

Though the Bikers Parade was brought to an abrupt end, the rest of the activities were continued as programmed. This edition of the carnival has however been criticised for poor planning and logistics issues.
