Obasanjo had cautioned the youths of Nigeria in his 6-page letter to be minded of the physical and mental health of the presidential candidate they decide to vote for. The president implied that Nigeria does not need a President that will not be sufficiently active to meet up with the problems bedeviling Nigeria presently. He told the youths that they needed a president who can speak directly to Nigerians, and not merely through press statements and media aides.
This, as a result, angered the Presidency.

Reacting, the presidency issued a strongly worded press statement signed by Garba Shehu, a media assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari. [Prior to joining the Buhari administration, Garba Shehu worked for Abubakar Atiku and still maintains a healthy relationship with the PDP presidential candidate]

The Buhari spokesman – who was speaking for President Buhari in official capacity referred to Obasanjo as Jealous, vengeful and corrupt.
