Australian Christians are furious over changes to the national curriculum that will drop the terms BC (Before Christ) and AD (Anno Domini) from text books, replacing them with neutral, non-religious language.

Under the new politically correct curriculum, BC and AD will be replaced with BCE (Before Common Era), BP (Before Present) and CE (Common Era).

Peter Jensen, the Archbishop of Sydney, said that taking references to the birth of Christ out of schoolbooks was an "intellectually absurd attempt to write Christ out of human history."

The changes have also angered conservatives in the opposition Liberal National Party, whose education spokesman, Christopher Pyne, said: "Kowtowing to political correctness by the embarrassing removal of AD and BC in our national curriculum is of a piece with the fundamental flaw of trying to deny who we are as a people.

"Australia is what it is today because of the foundations of our nation in the JudeoChristian heritage that we inherited from Western civilization."

But the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority said the new terms were the increasingly common standard for representing dates.

Gillard's Labour government, which rules with a majority of one, is also engaged in a bitter fight with the opposition over its planned carbon tax. Opinion polls show Gillard would lose if an election were held now, although one is not due for another two years. "Cultural continuity is maintained by educating children in the ways of their culture. And they are educated in the ways of their culture to MAINTAIN their culture, to advance its interests, and ultimately to try to maintain its very survival. That is the fundamental reason people are educated. What does it matter if you learn physics and computer science and everything else and you cannot defend yourself against a military assault by Europeans or a germ warfare assault? A knowledge of computer science, a knowledge of law, a knowledge of all of these other things matters not at all if you are unable to use that knowledge for your self defense. If Bush decided to wipe the face of this earth clean of African people there's not an African nation that could defend us against these people. That will be a great thing indeed, they won't be the first to experience cultural extinction. Maybe first to self inflict it, but it's all good, we all can use some more varieties.

Varieties like naming African kids Chinese middle names, and replacing French fries with deep fried Beijing eel

Let them experience cultural annihilation too.
