My Place of Pride and Origin

You have been called so many names

So many reckless speakers call you shithole

Some even call you slum

It doesn't matter what they think

To me, you are my place of Pride

To me, you are my Place of Honour.



The land of my Ancestors

The land of my sweat and labour

The land of my glory and grace

The greener land of fruitfulness

I remember the stories of your independence

The day so many gun shots rented the air to celebrate your freedom

Freedom from all shackles of the white.



Nigeria! the place of dignity and sweetness

I know you will rise above fuel scarcity

I am sure you will soar above election riggings

I know that your subjects will one day reclaim their lost dignity

When all nations of the world will throw their doors open unto us

Saying come Nigerians come

Come and dwell amidst us Nigerians

When we shall all be glad to claim the citizenship of our place of birth.



When I don't have to be British to enjoy liberty in Britain

When there won't be need to be an American either by marriage or naturalisation before I am respected in their land

When my identity as a Nigerian will earn me gold medals

When my flag of green, white, green will grant me an ambassadorial priviledge abroad

When I will adorn myself in an embroidery agbada and buba nsoro to address the British parliament as a Law maker in Britain

When King Charles will come to Itoku market to buy our Adire in quantum.



Nigeria! when will I sing your old gracious anthem

Chanting the cognomen of our nationalists of repute

Telling tourists of the sumptuous pounded yam we devour during our yam festivals

Showing them the historical Olumo Rock without missing its importance as a place of refuge

Revealing how we defeated the Dahomeys and discomfited them

Not forgetting how we embraced Christianity first throughout Africa.



Nigeria! where is your unity, peace and love

The era where Igbo, Hausa and Yoruba wine and dine without name callings

The time Nigeria is boldly written in our heart and not in our mouth

The time when tribe or religion are not the determinant during our election

Nigeria! you are my place of pride and glory

No matter how much they trample upon you

You will forever remain my own very PLACE of PRIDE and ORIGIN

Live above fuel Scarcity

Live above hunger

Live above killings and kidnapping

Live above political violence

Live with pride, glory and honour
