Barring last minute intervention by the leadership of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) in Lagos State, Eredo Local Council Development Area (LCDA), may burst into flames over who is to contest the October chairmanship position in the area.

It is being alleged that the incumbent chairman is using the recent statement by the National Leadership of the party that serving council chairmen should be allowed to renew their mandate for another term of office to see himself as the anointed candidate for the October chairmanship polls.

However, in a statement some party stakeholders in Eredo area are insisting that second term ticket promised the serving chairmen in the state was not a blanket offer that those who did not perform well would be dropped.

According to the stakeholders under the umbrella of Eredo Watch Dog, they would resist every attempt to impose a candidate on them in the forth-coming chairmanship election.
They said that imposing candidates on the electorate is not democratic, as people must be given freedom of choice.

The group warned that if the party fails to allow free choice of candidates in the October chairmanship election in the state, there is likelihood of the party loosing some local councils.
“Sequel to the recent announcement made by the National Leader and the stakeholders of ACN in Lagos State that serving council chairmen should be allowed to renew their mandate for another term in office come October 2011. But according to the National Leader of our great party Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu that second term ticket is not a blanket. He made it clear that chairmen who did not perform will not be picked. But our greatest surprise this statement has been misinterpreted by the ACN leaders and council chairmen in the state to suit their selfish political ambitions.
