our topic is "exercising", which is a popular topic on Twitter. But even within exercise circles, the lines are blurry. Are you a jogger or a runner? And what do you do while you exercise? Like so many other things in our society, exercise has turned into something that can mean so much more than it used to. We may exercise because we think that it's good for us, men's gym jackets or because we work out to impress others.

But in the end, is any type of exercise necessarily good?

At the simplest level, exercise involves making movement on some level to get fit. And that's a great thing. But beyond that, it's about health, longevity, and happiness.

Below, I'll outline three specific ideas that will be explored during this class.

Exercise: Avoiding Injury

This may sound like the basic idea of exercise – exercising to avoid injury. But once we look at it more deeply, we can learn how to build exercise into a plan to help us avoid injuries.

Staying active is important, but getting injured is a normal risk of regular exercise. The process of exercising is inevitably, intentionally difficult. So it's only normal to get hurt. And the same is true of losing weight. If you're moving your body on a regular basis, chances are you'll find a way to lose weight. I know I did! But exercising regularly isn't a magic bullet for weight loss. If you're working out to lose weight, your workouts will change over time. That's to be expected. But if you're trying to build exercise into your life, types of deadbolt you need to keep working on yourself to stay injury free.

You should probably start thinking about "exercising" with regard to exercise in general. A common response is to say that exercise is exercise. That's true. But exercise has many different forms, some of which are more likely to hurt you than others. That's because the goal of the exercise isn't to build good muscles. It's to build endurance. But sometimes, fitness gains are achieved through the process of working out.
