A tyranny is a cruel, harsh, and unfair government in which a person or small group of people have power over everyone else
It can also be defined as a state under cruel and oppression by government or unreasonable arbitrary use of power or control.
Democracy is a system of government where eligible population can elect there representative with total freedom
The 2015 election held 28th -29th of March saw a total change in the political realm where we saw the ruling party (PDP) which had always been at the fore front losing to the opposition this cannot be less or more accredited to the efforts of President Shehu Musa Yardua who started the campaign for political reform which the legacy was continued by President Goodluck Jonathan, which reduced the electoral malpractices though we have not eradicated the irregularities yet. Gen. Buhari, a former military head of state, won a historic 2015 election against Mr Jonathan to become the first opposition leader to defeat an incumbent president in Nigeria.
The Buhari government has been in power for eight years He is a retired Nigerian Army major general who served as the country's military head of state from 31 December 1983 to 27 August 1985, after taking power in a military coup d'état. The term Buharism is ascribed to the authoritarian policies of his military regime, Though Buhari looks like a perfect gentleman in his second coming but his tenure has been characterize by using the state security agency in picking up those who make any negative comments suppressing the citizens in voicing out their mind.
The Endsars protest saw thousands of youth flooding the street to demand their right, it was all over the news that they were met with force which the Nigerian government as denied. There was a man who named his Dog after the president, Twitter ban, the student who made a comment on the first lady picture they have been met with force, The ill-treatment of Mr Sowore, an activist. The question is who ordered them? The President or his overzealous aides or security agency.
This was part of what people enjoyed during Jonathan’s tenure freedom of speech. Which he even admitted in some of his speeches
“I am the most abused and insulted president in the world, but when I leave office you will all remember me for the total freedom you enjoyed under my government,” – Goodluck Jonathan, ex-Nigerian President.
However, many Nigerians are now wondering if it was not a horrible mistake to elect the former military general, considering his past human rights records when he was a military dictator.
Presidential and National Assembly election will hold on the 25th February 2023. What bothers my heart will Nigerians ever enjoy the freedom of speech again or will another government ban it medium of communication. We will all miss the president as a good man or would he be remembered by the hardship faced by Nigerians.
Whosoever is elected as the next president need to heal the country, this is a very peculiar election where the three tribes are well represent the Igbo, Yoruba and Hausa.
