Scopus, an Elsevier’s largest abstract and citation peer-reviewed literature database has ranked four academic staff of Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State, among top 500 authors in Nigeria by scholarly output.
The ranking which was made known by Scopus in its website is for the period of 2019 to 2022, and covers all types of publications including citations. Scopus database system was launched in 2004, and covers nearly 36, 377 titles from approximately 11, 678 publishers. All journals covered in the Scopus database are reviewed for sufficiently high quality each year.
From the data released by Scopus on 24th December, 2022, Dr. Famurewa Ademola C of the Department of Medical Biochemistry was placed 277 with 35 scholarly output and 349 citations; Dr. Aloke Chinyere of the Department of Medical Biochemistry was placed 341 with 31 scholarly output and 88 citations, Dr. Onyeneke Robert Ugochukwu of the Department of Agriculture was placed 343 with 31 scholarly output and 120 citations while Dr. Okolie Ugochukwu Chiinonso of the Department of Vocational and Technical Education was ranked 350 with 31 scholarly output and 212 citations, within the period of the review.


Famurewa earned a PhD in Medical Biochemistry from the University of Nigeria Nsukka. He had his postdoctoral cancer research training at Amala Cancer Research Centre, Institute of Medical Sciences, Kerala State, India, in 2019. His research interests are Redox Biology, Phytomedicine (Cancer) and Molecular Toxicology. In 2019, he emerged the best oral presenter at the 6th National Conference of the Indian Society of Ethnopharmacology, Jadavpur University, West Bengal, India.

Dr. Famurewa has published 62 papers in leading peer-reviewed scientific journals published in Elsevier, Taylor and Francis, Wiley, MDPI, Dove Medical Press, Thiene (Stuttgart), among others. His recent works and research findings have been published in top journals, including Chemosphere (impact-factor, 7.086), Life Sciences (impact-factor, 5.037), Journal of Inflammation Research (impact-factor, 6.922), and Biomedicine and Pharmacotherapy (impact-factor, 6.529).



Aloke obtained his PhD in Medical Biochemistry from the Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki in 2018. His research interest is in Phytomedicine for non-communicable diseases. He has published 58 academic papers in reputable peer-reviewed journals and has made several presentations at conferences both local and international. He won the AE-FUNAI Vice-Chancellor’s award for the most outstanding researcher in 2021.

Onyeneke is a Reader in the Department of Agriculture of the University. He holds a PhD in Agricultural Economics with specialization in Resource and Environmental Economics from Imo State University, Owerri. He has served as the Acting Director of the Centre for Internationalization Linkages, Advancement and Global Ranking as well as the Acting Director of Extension and Community Service of the University. In his research, he seeks to understand the relationship between climate change and sustainable development, with the aim of designing and evaluating policies, programmes and projects. Currently, he is explicitly concerned with economics of climate change; evaluation of agricultural and environmental policies/programmes/projects; and sustainable food systems.





Dr. Onyeneke, to his credit, has many research papers published in international and local journals and peer-reviewed conference proceedings. He received the most Outstanding Researcher Award of AE-FUNAI in 2019 and the Most Productive Researcher Award of the Faculty of Agriculture of the same University in 2018. Dr. Robert Ugochukwu Onyeneke was ranked 437th best researcher in Nigeria on scholarly by SciVal (2018-2021).
Okolie holds a PhD, M.Ed and B.Sc.Ed in Vocational and Technical Education respectively. He chairs the research and publication committee in the Faculty of Education of the University and serves as the Managing Editor of the AE-FUNAI Faculty of Education Journal.


His research interest focuses on Vocational Education and Training, work placement learning, career development and employability of graduates, and entrepreneurship.

Dr. Okolie can competently employ mixed-methods research design, quantitative and qualitative designs in carrying out research/studies. He is currently the consulting editor and editorial board member of Journal Career Assessment, a top-tier Vocational Psychology Journal published by SAGE.
While expressing his happiness on the scholarly output of the three erudite scholars, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Sunday Elom commended their academic resourcefulness, and assured of his administration’s continued support to research, innovation and development. He also urged them not to rest on their oars in their stride to provide solutions to the litany of problems confronting the world. The Vice-Chancellor further urged other staff in the University to breast up to the challenges of the 21st century education that is driven by research, innovation and development.
