Budget Deficits Not Necessarily Bad – Tinubu Reacts To 2023 Appropriation by YorubaNiBaba(m): 6:56pm On Jan 13, 2023
The Presidential Candidate of the All Progressives Party, APC, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, said budget deficits are not necessarily bad.
Also, he said the real issue is whether the budget deficit spending is productive.

Tinubu disclosed this while meeting with business leaders in Lagos State on Friday.
He said, “I don’t embrace the conventional wisdom that fiscal deficit by the national government is inherently flawed.

All governments, especially in this era of rare currency, run budgetary deficits; this is an inherent part of modern government. The wealthiest governments run budget deficits, as do the poorest nations.

“A budget deficit is not necessarily bad. Look at the Japanese example with high government borrowing and low inflation. The real issue is whether deficit spending is productive or not. Unproductive deficits that are backed by excessive borrowing of foreign currency”
.

Tinubu’s comments come amid backlash over President Muhammadu Buhari’s signing of the 2023 budget into law with a 10.73 trillion deficit.

Good point from tinubu

As long as it is used for the intended purpose..

Like what buhari did to the south easterner by constructing the second Niger bridge ..

Is it wise ,for any one of them to criticise buhari for borrowing loan..

This people that wrote this rubbishes for agbdo no nothing about economy

A country who's debt servicing to revenue is already over 100% you want to borrow more ?

What's Japanese debt servicing to revenue ratio .....I can bet you they would never mention that
The funny thing is the more we show lack of fiscal discipline the more our lenders give us high interest rate which then compound our already terrible revenue to debt service ratio

Solutions show fiscal discipline , remove subsidy , cut cost of governance , your president of a country which GDP is less than that of Huston is having a motorcade of 50 cars , 15 private jets ? For a small economy as ours ?

My advice is one remove subsidy introduce a #75 tax on every liter of fuel

Reduce number MDAs

Infact go listen to Peter obi he Sabi pass me

When corruption speaks you will know...

What Tinubu is saying is that, as a business owner, if you spend more than what you make from what you generate from your sells, then it's not necessarily bad. This is why we're in this mess, because our leaders keep spending and stealing the money they'd used prudently to make life better. Rather, they keep collecting loans and embezzling everything.

Is there anytime in this country that budget deficit has been productively used?

Tinubu's plan for Nigeria is to steal more money and give silly excuse just as Buhari did.... Afterall, he wants to take after him just to continue from the mess that we are in today....

Buhari did not construct the 2nd Niger bridge with any loan. The money used to construct the second Niger bridge was the repatriated fund from Abacha Loots. Infact the United State gave the condition that the money must be used for infrastructure if they are to return the loot.

Whatever that's remaining would be collected at toll fee for years to come. It's a PPP...project. the government was struggling to meet up his own funding before the repatriated abacha loot came. Any money borrowed by this government was spent on hospital bill for the president, bogus allowance for politicians, payment of salaries, servicing of debt, payment of the scam called subsidies, sponsoring of pilgrimage, etc..
