2023 Elections: Top ten states with highest voters registrations

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) earlier this week presented a soft copy of the updated voter register to the 18 political parties in the country.

As Nairametrics previously reported, the register contains a total of 93,469,008 voters, with 44,414,846 female voters and 49,054,162 male voters.

Of the total registered voters, the number of young people between the ages of 18 and 34 stood at 37,060,399, representing 39.65% of total registered voters while the elderly between the ages of 50 and 69 stood at 17,700,270, representing 18.94% of the total registered voters.

Earlier in October last year. INEC revealed that it had weeded out about 2.7 million invalid voter registrations from its database during its comprehensive clean-up of the registration data.

Top 10 states by PVC registrations: Listed below are the top ten Nigerian states where many of the 93,469,008 registered voters are –

Lagos: 7,060,195
Kano: 5,921,370
Kaduna: 4,335,208
Rivers: 3,537,190
Katsina: 3,4516,719
Oyo: 3,276,765
Bauchi: 2,749,268
Plateau: 2,789,528
Benue: 2,777,727
Niger: 2,698,344

Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory, FCT, recorded 1,570,307 registered voters for the 2023 General elections.

The result also shows that of the ten highest registered states by voters, 7 are in the North and 3 in the South( Lagos, Rivers and Oyo).

First-time voters: As many as 43% of Nigerians eligible to vote in the 2023 general elections would be first-time voters according to a report by socioeconomic research firm, SBM Intelligence. They said:

“The survey’s findings showed that 97% of respondents desire to vote. Of this figure, 94% completed the CVR process (physical capture); 90% tried to pick up their PVCs and 79% successfully picked up their PVCs.
“This data suggests that more Nigerians are willing to vote in 2023. Crucially, a very significant 43% are first-time voters, mostly young people”.

PVC collection extension : Meanwhile, The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced the extension of the deadline for the collection of Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) by about a week.

Nairametrics reported that the extension may be linked to the complaints and frustrations expressed by eligible voters over the delay and the very slow process involved in the PVC collection exercise.

The election umpire who had earlier fixed January 22, 2023, as the collection deadline for these PVCs, extended the deadline to Sunday, January 29, 2023.

The states are predomininantly in APC-dominated states with no single SE state in the top 10 to go for PDP as usual.

PVC registration has never been an issue, but voter apathy during elections. For instance, in 2019, INEC registered over 80 million voters but less than 30 million voted because the majority weren't interested in the frontrunners.

However, with Peter Obi in this race, we are definitely going to see positive changes, especially in the South where many young people have given up on the government.

Just imagine! No Igbo state on the list and obi keeps wasting his time in South east deceiving himself with inconsequential votes. Tell me which of those states is so sure for obi to get 60%? None, except mere self deceit! Tinubu knows and studies this, he started building bridges with the north while obi is running away from he north depending on unsure south-south votes that will be decived. Huncle, what counts in Nigérian politics is not where the person comes from, but who gives block votes. For instance, Tinubu is from Lagos but will never get block votes from Lagos because it is home to many Nigerians with diverse political views. This is common sense.

On the flip side, unlike the South West that rarely gives block votes (check stats from 1999), the South East and South South have been known to deliver block votes in Nigerian presidential elections since 1999. The two regions share similar political ideology and always vote alike.

Keep deceiving yourself for self-consolation. You are deviding votes of other regions based on unrealistic assumption. If it were easy like you just said, PDP would have taking over Lagos. I don't know why you think Igbo will ever be more than the yorubas in Lagos. Is it today Igbos started voting their own in Lagos? Go and ask those previous Igbo governoship candidates who depended on Igbo votes to win through other party in Lagos.

Many Igbos will go back to their states to vote, why many Igbos are already parts of APC in Lagos State based on solid structure of APC in Lagos, you meant they will abandon party that is feeding them and vote for inconsequential LP party. Among the Igbos, many of them are already beneficiaries directly/indirectly while some have already blended to yoruba way of life who will vote for Tinubu.

Other non-igbos in Lagos will vote for Tinubu in majority, so Igbos expectation of high votes in Lagos is just based on futility assumption because during election, people will focus on PDP and APC as usually custom. At the end of the day, votes obi will get in Lagos will not even meet 25% requirements. Even in Oyo, obi can't get 10,000 votes, focus will be on APC in majority and PDP. Learn from how your expectation in Osun and Ekiti were cut short, LP never got more than 3000 votes. If there is going to be any increase in this states, it will still be less than 10,000votes.

Anyway, just go and be making yourself happy with ANAP and other online polls where obi is winning until reality hits you when Tinubu is declared as winner with wide margin

While you are busy masturbating over the Igbos, I didn't mention one tribe in my comment. You urchins are trying so hard to make this election about tribes, but you don't tell other tribes that make up this country that sufferings and insecurity know no tribe and religion.

Elections are days away; whatever becomes of the country, we will all feel the impact. But then, just don't run away (japa) from the country after imposing that skit maker on us.
