SENATOR IFEANYI UBAH THROWS WEIGHT BEHIND CALLS FOR EXIT OF NIGERIA POLICE FORCE FROM CONTRIBUTORY PENSION SCHEME

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BuXDFeEY-Ac

in line with his principle of protecting the interests of citizens including those on uniform, Anambra South Senator and Candidate of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) for the 2023 Anambra South Senatorial Election Dr Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah on Friday, called for the exit of Nigeria Police Force from the Contributory Pension Scheme which is being run and managed by the National Pension Commission (PENCOM). Senator Ubah made the call during a One-Day Public Hearing on the Police Pension Board (Establishment) Bill 2022 (SB. 1009) which was sponsored by Senator Elisha Abbo, APC, Adamawa North and the Nigerian Police Special Forces (Establishment) Bill 2022 (SB. 846) sponsored by Senator Ali Ndume, APC Borno South.

Speaking at the event which was organized by the Senate Committee on Police Affairs, Senator Ubah asked representatives of PENCOM to explain to Nigerians why the Pensions of retired Police personnel remains under the control of the Commission while other security agencies have separate units under their control that manage their pensions. The Anambra South Senator further maintained that in spirit of equity and justice, the Police Force like other security agencies, should be allowed to manage pensions of its retired Personnel.

Also speaking at the event, the Inspector-General of Police, Alkali Baba, represented by Deputy Inspector General of Police, Sanusi Lemu said the Police requires a separate board for management and administration of pensions of retired police personnel in the mode of the Military Pension Board. The IGP further argued that exiting the Contributory Pension Scheme being run and managed by PENCOM is long over due for the police on account of poor services.

Chairman of the committee, Senator Dauda Haliru Jika in his presentation, also maintained that the Police deserves same special treatment being enjoyed by other security agencies.

Also in their separate remarks, the aforementioned sponsors of the Bills further threw their weight behind calls for exit of Nigeria Police Force from Contributory Pension Scheme and expressed hope that the Bill will be passed by the National Assembly.

In their separate presentations, representatives of PENCOM, Pension Fund Operators Association of Nigeria and Nigerian Labour Congress argued that retaining the management of pensions of retired police Police personnel under PENCOM was a decision made by the Federal Government to avoid sending the country back to dark ages. They further argued that the exit of the Police Force from the Contributory Pension Scheme shall breed avoidable liability for the country. However, members of the Senate Committee on Police Affairs and the Inspector-General of Police maintained their supports for the Bill.

The Senate Committee on Police Affairs is expected to present its report to the upper chamber when it reconvenes on Tuesday.

The merit is that it will allow for speedy intervention of welfare of the officers after retirement, though it should be well supervised to discourage a mis-normal in the system. I.e. Miana case, etc.

Useless people, always looking for ways to steal...they are even too lazy to develop new ways.

Anyone who is serious should go and read how a former IGP Tafa Balogun stole billions from the Police ....honestly its not even that long ago.

So because the military and other institutions have continued making billionaires from their pension fund the police must join them to shey....na real wa oooo.

Pension scheme is Ev!l!

it should be abolished. How can people serve the government for 35years and not be entitled to life pensions? Even at that, they don’t even get the money remitted from their salaries in which they’re supposed to get after retirement, they don’t even get access to the monies on time.

Meanwhile public service holders serve for 4 or 8 years and are entitled to life bogus allowances and pensions.

It is unheard of.

Those that brought the idea will not d!e well.

I see what he means....why should the cops be different from other uniformed forces.

I guess the answer is the Police has always been seen as 'civilians in uniform'....plus Army has ways of ensuring its rights are maintained.

It's long overdue. They serve their nation for 35years (in good and bad ways) only for them to be given peanuts upon retirement; a bigger chunk of their money is been witheld by the commission as though they are toddlers incapable of handling money.

National Pension Commission (PENCOM) are fighting tooth and nail to keep the police under them because they would lose a big channel of syphoning money out of FG.

Another of obasanjo’s unforgivable mistakes
Why should the police contribute to her own pension
Re: Ifeanyi Ubah Calls For Police Exit From Contributory Pension Scheme by menix(m): 12:33pm On Jan 21, 2023
It's high time police exit from such scheme provided they would manage the new system..

PENCOM managing police pension is contributing immensely to the Corrupt state of the police system.
How can someone put in 35yrs only to be paid 20-25k every month as pension, pls is it for drugs or feeding himself and the family??

Certainly, u put such a man to temptation and when it finally plays out, we all chant "Police is Corrupt" when it's a reflection of what you and I wants for them...
