The Ondo State Governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko has ordered that immediate rescue work commences at the failed portions of the Akure/ Owo/Benin expressway where about 32 souls perished in a multiple accident earlier in the week pending when the Federal Government will move to the site.

Mimiko, who had earlier visited the scene on his way to Abuja on Tuesday, revisited the failed spots on Thursday alongside state officials including officials of the State Ministry of Works and ordered the immediate commencement of work on the failed spots in order to stop a reoccurrence of such unfortunate incident.

The Governor who betrayed emotion at the scene of the accident described the situation of the road as deplorable and unacceptable.
It would be recalled that when the administration on assumption of office in 2009, repaired portions of the express road from the end of the road up to Ogbese on the same road due to its deplorable state too at the time.

Similar intervention exercises had been carried out on federal roads in the state by the administration as virtually all federal government roads in the state have been abandoned in their frightful conditions while harried commuters plying the routes to the Eastern and Northern parts of the country are often heard complaining bitterly and heaping blames on the state government often, being ignorant of the fact that the roads are indeed federal ones.

Very funny. Can his excellency tell us one project he has successfully completed since he assumed Office? NONE! except the mass demolition of shops. Ordinary Akure township beautification his administration embarked on since 3 years ago is still dragging- Just Akure township o. *smh*

Roads are very important to the economy of Nigeria. If Nigeria must diversified her economy roads are very important factor which need to be addressed. The largest percentage of Nigerian resources and people live in rural areas and they roads need to get these raw materials out of those areas, beside other things. I think our leaders have been negligent of the real importance of roads to national development and growth. It's a silent factor in driving the whole economy!

Why cant some people appreciate what Governor Mimiko is doing in Ondo State and encourage him to do more, let us not attach sentiment into issues, is it the demolition of buildings that compensation have being paid for already or illegal structures that is the issue now or the fact that construction of any project has its stages and duration and government is a continua if one starts a project another can complete it.QED

souls sacrificed,Governor visited, ordered work to commence on federal road-congrats Governor-sympathy for the dead ones indeed. Actually we are still searching for true leaders in this country. For the Governor action belated and felt disappointed in him,he is not labour friendly and has failed in his duty of care which he owes his neighbour. Again do we actually have Minister of labour in this country-he has also failed his Generation, ON the part of Federal Government, they have shown by words and action that they have no value for human life, a country where there is -sorry -just shame to

Re: Mimiko Orders Immediate Work On Federal Road by Basics007: 9:51am On Sep 07, 2011
Eeya! It had to take the loss of 34 lives before the governor knew the road needs rehabilitation. What a sacrifice!
BTW I never knew that road is a federal road cos the late Onyearugbulem was the last governor to reconstruct that road while he was the administrator of Ondo State.
Your excellency while you are at it can you pls extend your magnanimity to the Ondo state portion of the Sagamu-Ore-Benin road or 34 people must die there too before we realise it's a federal road too?
