Ghana Desperate & Hoping For Dangote Refinery To Save Their Economy

The 20 billion dollar world class Dangote Refinery, Lagos, has come under the sharp lens of the nation of Ghana, as it desperately seeks to exit its terrible economic crisis that has seen the cedi collapse as the world's worst performing currency this year, and inflation hit an incredible 60%.

Key to solving their crisis is a drastic reduction in energy prices, which will end their massive inflation, and for which they are looking to Nigeria, with its game-changing Dangote refinery, due to come on stream this quarter of 2023, and guarantee low cost, high quality, refined crude oil at a much lower price than Ghana can get anywhere else on Earth.

Of course it will be cheap because there is no high transportation cost from shipping petroleum products from US, Europe etc.

In fact the whole of West Africa is just waiting with bated breath for the refinery to start operations, so they can make Nigeria their Number 1 source of petrol and petroleum products.

The crew who run around shouting "Ghana is the African giant and not Nigeria" will have no comment per this revelation.

Also, the ingrates and haters (they know who they are) who live and thrive in Lagos yet claim the States greatness is down to being former capital will have nothing to say per how Lagos pulled out all the stops to ensure Dangote chose the State for his refinery 'game changer' project.

When they then see Dangote, Otedola, Ovia, Adenuga, Elumelu , along with many Industry giant and proven winners, queue behind Tinubu they will be shouting "they have been paid" or "bullion van".

A lot of Nigerians are hateful, bigoted and sadistically toxic beyond redemption but genuine lovers of Nigeria thank God Tinubu is on course to win so we can be spared the suffering and embarrassment an Atiku or Obi win, two losers, empty barrels and leadership zeroes, will heap on Nigeria.

Dangote, one of the most astute and successful businessman in the world, will be involved in a scam he will lose a lot over?

Bro, not everything is 'scam' just because you don't trust politicians. Dangote has never involved himself in political partisanship.

Dude has always been about his business success and building his empire. His refinery will be a "game changer" success for Dangote, Nigeria and Africa. Take that to the bank.

Alike Dangote’s vision is legendary. If Ghana, a foreign country, could be so optimistic of the impact of the mega-refinery on her economy, how much more Nigeria?

This is the same Ghana that some people were rating higher than Nigeria just because they rebased their currency; now the cedi is the worst performing currency on earth and they’re battling an inflation rate of 60% - almost thrice that of Nigeria.

Aliko is on course to shoot up in the Forbes List of the World’s wealthiest.

For real... this refinery could put him in the top 10 richest men on Earth soon.

On a wider note, it is a huge blessing for Nigeria, the refinery.

Serious game-changer.

We will now become self-sufficient in refined crude oil and petroleum products which we will now export to Africa and the world...

Huge deal.

It will make MANY people money in this country.

Even right now we are manufacturing and exporting fertiliser to India, Brazil, and the United States, from the 2.5 billion dollar fertiliser plant in Lekki which is part of the refinery.

First African country to manufacture and export fertilisers to the world. Normally it is them sending to us. wink

This is why Nigeria is the Giant of Africa, and the only way is UP.

Dangote should make sure he sells refined petroleum products in USD to Nigerian neighbours so they can have enough USD to buy crude oil from production companies in Nigeria.

Nigeria doesn't need to beg anyone to buy her crude oil as that was the case some years back. A country of 200 million people is enough market already and should be able to take care of itself and its neighbours.

Dangote is steadily positioning himself to become the best thing that ever happened to this country and I hope there's a transfer-of-business template of how his chains of businesses should be run when he finally leaves this world.

Africans must learn to keep their businesses going when they are no more as most homegrown businesses here die with their owners/founders. Even if we don't want to learn anything positive from the Caucasians, we should learn that from them.

I am fiercely patriotic. I am confident of Nigeria's potentials.

But cautiously optimistic about the Dangote Refinery that so many quickly claim will be an all-fix solution. The negro is a business man first and not a philanthropist. He will think first about his bottom line before "saving" Nigeria.

Same way folks just feel subsidy removal will fix all problems not taking into cognizance other negative consequences of said removal.

It's not a skin colour thing. Every business prioritizes its profits before anything else in capitalist economies.

The deal with the Dangote refinery is that due to proximity of the buyers (ie in Nigeria, and West, and Central Africa), the company stands to make huge profits even while selling cheap. Petroleum products have always cost a fortune because of the cost of shipping them from foreign regions like Europe, the Middle East and America.

Dangote cannot sell at the same price as those foreign sources, or there will be no buyers. They will simply stick to their current suppliers. His Unique Selling Point (USP) is high quality, low priced petrol and petroleum products.

Good explanation but the skin colour part is unnecessary.

I used negro like I would have used FELLA or GUY.

I am still guarded about a monopoly. Always an opportunity to exploit the market without alternatives.

But there ARE alternatives. The buyers he's trying to attract are not starved of sources of supply. What he brings to the table is low price. He cannot play the greedy monopolist in the oil and gas market which has so many suppliers. He must undercut them to gain their market share.

Ghanas economy is being a systematically destroyed by the West because the Ghanaians decided to charge more for their Cocoa. That's the reason. They are being shown sheegee the same way the West messed up the Chilean economy at a point and the Zimbabwean economy under Mugabe for land reforms, unfortunately Africans don't understand the racist policy thrust of the major Western powers here because unlike during the independence era, no serious African political thinker has been able to articulate this serious problem in a very easily understandable narrative that can resonate with the population across the continent.

The West wants Africa to be nothing but a source of raw materials. They're strongly against any serious industrialization in Africa. Ghana and Cote de voir produce most of the whole Cocoa used in the whole world dirt cheap for big Western multinationals. The chocolate industry is a huge money spinning segment of the western economy that keeps countries like Switzerland making billions yearly! Switzerland make billions of dollars more from Cocoa produced in West Africa than Ghana and Cote de voir, because they're the ones that basically add value to the product. The West African countries revolted recently and asked for better payments..

The Western companies refused and Ghana decided to get some Chinese firms to help them start producing their own chocolates to rival the ones produced in the West. This way, they would have controlled the whole chain from growing the product to final production of the main chocolates! Immediately they came up with this idea, the monetary sanctions from the West started trickling in and Ghanas economy have been screaming ever since. This is how African states fail! But we are always eager to blame some local Political characters rather than confront a racist western foreign policy construct that has designated a whole continent as a slave camp!

Great points. Africa can combat this by exposing it to the whole world via all available media, and presenting it as Economic Warfare against the continent. Because that is exactly what it is.

Make it PUBLIC via the African Union or something.

Go to the UN and speak as ONE Africa.

Present documentary evidence showing this massive western conspiracy against Africa, in a huge public campaign, which can be very powerful in this age of social media.

FORCE the whole world to know what is going on, and shame these criminal western nations into stopping this.

The problem is that this sort of thing happens, and no one says anything, including the Ghanaian govt. Everyone just keeps quiet.

That stoic silence must END, or nothing changes.

It does not work like that. Firstly the cost of oil does not come from shipping. It does not even cost up to 500k dollars to ship 300m dollar petroleum or crude oil via tanker from Europe to Africa or USA. The price of oil is controlled mostly by OPEC. OPEC controls oil production and amount of exports, and sets the prices.

Nigeria cannot exceed the OPEC export cap because they have more capacity. OPEC does not allow it. The only thing OPEC does not control is local consumption. If Dangote buys Nigerian crude and exports most of it, he will make more money but the price of petroleum products will not reduce in Nigeria, it will rather rise. If he focuses on local the market, the prices of products in Nigeria will fall but he will not make a lot of money. Worse still, he won't earn in USD.

The only option for Dangote refinery to be a real game changer is that, Nigeria will have to double production of oil and sell the entire OPEC quota with Dangote and other foreign refineries then fufill local demand through Dangote. But ask yourself if that is even possible. Nigeria is not even fufilling her OPEC quota.

Our political leaders are complacent that's why they are not raising the alarm. It's just like the refinery issue, an individual is during what govt refused to do due to corruption and the monopolistic views of some section, modular refineries that are supposed to be scattered all over the country is been suppressed because of someone's ambition.

Only the biggest losers, far worse than even Obi fans, support Atiku. Can you show even a single positive thing Atiku has done as a leader?

People like you deserve to be in a geographical space cut off from others to then be led by Atiku as your regional Premier.

Obi is an abject mediocre leader but there is not a single good or positive thing about Atiku. Nada. Zilch.

It is a thing of personal and immense shame to me some Nigerians, like you, cannot even note they are the biggest slaves on earth supporting a character who chooses to live away from Nigeria, as if ashamed of you and your problem, to then turn up, like clockwork, in election year demanding to be your President.

Obi fans are toxic, uncouth and odious Vernon's but you Atiku fans are the pits. Absolutely the lowest of the low following an arrogant, treacherous, dishonourable and complete empty barrel with not a single leadership achievement to his name.

All Atiku is famous for is being the Nigerian leader most implicated in all the biggest corruption and sleaze scandal of international and global dimension since 1999. Una no dey shame walahi.
