*THE AFRICAN UNION HIGH REPRESENTATIVE FOR THE GREAT LAKES REGION VISITS THE EMBASSY OF NIGERIA, BURUNDI; PROMISES MORE DIPLOMATIC, ECONOMIC AND POLITICAL PARTNERSHIP WITH THE MISSION*

The Nigerian Mission in Burundi on 21st January 2023, received His Excellency M. Sghair M’Bareck Said - the African Union High Representative for the Great Lakes Region accredited to the Republic of Burundi on a courtesy visit.

The African Great Lakes Region which consists of Lakes Victoria, Tanganyika, Malawi, Turkana, Albert, Kivu and Edward spanning ten countries, namely Democratic Republic of Congo, Burundi, Ethiopia, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia, occupies a strategic economic position as a core source of fishes and water for domestic use, avenues for transportation, huge agricultural support path, ambient electric power generation facility, domestic/industrial effluents and atmospheric residues channels for the region.

Recieving the High Representative for the Great Lakes region, His Excellency Ambassador Elijah Onyeagba PhD joyfully received the AU envoy to the embassy, noting that his visit is both historic and symbolic considering his input in the African and regional political terrain. According to the Nigerian Head of Mission in Burundi, this strategic meeting is targeted at areas the Nigerian mission can cooperate with the AU envoy in ensuring a more prosperous and greater Africa!

His Excellency M. Sghair M’Bareck Said, is a former Prime Minister of Mauritania and the Head of Mauritania Constitution Review Conference. He also previously served as Mayor of Nouakchott, Minister of Health, Education and Infrastructure in Mauritania. He also served 3 terms as a member of Parliament.
