I hear you Chief, many people appear skeptical of the BMW drivetrain platform and I am not really sure why. However, for me the BMW drivetrain system offers very robust, smooth and very reliable drive mechanisms and they are quite cost effective too.

I haven't really had any unusual operational nor maintenance experience since I completed this modification over 3years ago. The overall drive experience is many moons ahead of what I had seen with the 300TDI Diesel Engine and Manual Gearbox that I had in it originally.

Do you know that at one time in 1997 when BMW acquired the Land Rover company that they actually put one of these Engines in some Defenders in their South African fleet; however, they did that with an M54B28 Engine coupled to a Manual GearBox. See the links below
