SENATOR IFEANYI UBAH’S BILLS FOR THE ESTABLISHMENT OF FEDERAL MEDICAL CENTRE ULI AND FEDERAL ORTHOPAEDIC HOSPITAL UKPOR PASSES PUBLIC HEARING.

WILD JUBILATION ERUPTS IN ANAMBRA SOUTH SENATORIAL DISTRICT AS SENATOR UBAH REINTERATES COMMITMENT TOWARDS PROVIDING ADEQUATE HEALTHCARE FOR HIS CONSTITUENTS.

_With the conclusion of the public hearing, the Senate Committee on Health will present its report on the Senate floor, after which the Bills will undergo third reading and hopefully pass by the upper chamber. This also consolidated Senator Ubah’s lead in Bills Sponsorship and Healthcare Support in the history of Anambra South Senatorial District_

The Senator representing Anambra South and Candidate of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) for the 2023 Anambra South Senatorial Election Dr Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah on Tuesday,31/01/2023, reassured his constituents that he will always use the instrumentality of his office to provide adequate healthcare for them. Senator Ubah made the remarks during a public hearing organized by the Senate Committee on Health for his two bills: Federal Orthopaedic Hospital Ukpor, Anambra State (Establishment) Bill 2022 (SB. 598) and Federal Medical Centre Uli, Anambra State (Establishment) Bill 2023 (SB. 487).

Speaking at the event that took place at the Senate Conference Hall 231 New Building, Senator Ubah maintained that health is wealth and no nation can develop if its citizens lack adequate healthcare. The Anambra South Senator also said that the Bill for the establishment of Federal Orthopaedic Hospital, Ukpor was birthed by appeals from his constituents for the provision of a Federal Orthopaedic Healthcare Unit to address the rising Orthopaedic healthcare challenges that are catalysed by the increased population of people in the Senatorial District. He also disclosed that the entire South-East geopolitical zone presently has only one federal orthopaedic hospital situated in Enugu, and that has caused many avoidable deaths in his Senatorial District. The Senator also lamented that due to lack of adequate Orthopaedic Healthcare, some people who battled fracture due to bullet wounds after his convoy was attacked at Nkwọ Enugwu-Ukwu on September 11, 2022 couldn’t survive

Commenting on the Bill for the establishment of Federal Medical Centre Uli Anambra State, Senator Ubah said that it is well deserved because some states in the country including the Federal Capital Territory have both Teaching Hospital and Federal Medical Centre. The Anambra South Senator also disclosed that the Bill was birthed by appeals from his constituents and expressed hope that when established, the centre will play vital roles in addressing various health challenges of his people. He also informed the gathering that as part of his intervention in the health sector and in continuation of his efforts at providing adequate healthcare for his constituents and ndị Anambra, he convened a group of high profile citizens under the umbrella of Anambra Progressives and Development Union (APDU) and built ultramodern medical and isolation centres at Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital (Permanent Site), Nnewi and Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka within a period of one year during the Convid-19 Pandemic.

Senator Ubah further appreciated his fellow members of the Senate Committee on Health led by Senator Ibrahim Oloriegbe, tradional rulers and stakeholders of the host communities of the proposed medical facilities and various medical unions for their supports and cooperation, and reassured ndị Anambra South that his office will leave no stone unturned in partnering with relevant authorities to promote their wellbeing and boost community development.

In his remarks, the Chairman of Senate Committee on Health Senator Ibrahim Oloriegbe disclosed that the Public Hearing was meant to assess the views of stakeholders and general public in order to obtain balanced inputs that will be acceptable to all. Senator Oloriegbe also appreciated the Senate President Ahmed Lawan, Senator Ubah, and other members of the committee for their support and expressed hope that the Bills, when passed, will address the concerns of constituents

Also present at the epic event were Deputy Senate Majority Leader Professor Robert Ajayi Boroffice, who represented the Senate President, Minister of Health Dr Osagie Ehanire, Minister of State for Health Hon. Ekumankama Joseph Nkama, representatives of Nigeria Medical Association and other health unions, President-General of Ukpor Improvement Union Chief I.G Nwawulu(Obiekunie) , Chairman UIU Abuja Branch Mr Christian Okonkwo,Chief Francis Chukwudebelu (Ezeana Omenuko), Chief Tony Ezeani (Odenigbo Ukpor ), Nze Kanayo Chukwumezie , Ceaser Dim Nnakife, Chief Jude Mbaegbu, Candidate of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) for 2023 Nnewi South(11) State Constituency Election Hon Johnbosco Akaegbobi (Odaa Opuo) and several other stakeholders from Ukpor and Uli communities.

With the conclusion of the public hearing, the Senate Committee on Health will present its report on the Senate floor, after which the Bills will undergo third reading and hopefully get passed by the upper chamber.
