Please what is the answer to this question?
A woman bought some oranges and 30% of them were bad. If there were 60 bad oranges, how many oranges did she buy?
Answer option 18, 42, 100, 180 and 200

My child's teacher gave the answer as 18 oranges
Whereas my child gave the answer as 200
30% of the oranges are bad being 60 oranges and 70% are good
Hence the 70%+30% should be 100%
Therefore 30% bad one's =60
At 70% exist 30%+30% equal to 120 good oranges remaining 1% to get additional good oranges 60÷3 = 20
Therefore total adds up to 60+140 being 200 oranges in total.
Who was correct my child's teacher or my child?

Guess the teacher didn't understand the question as 30% of 60 is 18.

Your child's answer of 200 oranges is correct.

If 30% of the oranges were bad and there were 60 bad oranges, then the total number of oranges bought would be:

60 / 0.30 = 200

Therefore, your child's answer of 200 oranges is correct. The answer of 18 oranges provided by the teacher is not correct. It's possible that the teacher made a mistake in their calculations. It's important to address this with the teacher so that they can correct the mistake and provide accurate information to their students in the future.
