The long-running Samsung Galaxy S-series formula has recently been improved with the Samsung Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23+. There has been refinement — Samsung has improved the key hardware and software features — but no fundamental changes.

The most significant improvement for this generation is that every S23 phone sold worldwide will only use a custom Qualcomm chipset known as the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy. Compared to the other 8 Gen 2 chipsets currently on the market, this has faster clock speeds. Although the phones have different storage options, the RAM is always fixed at 8GB (as it was last year and the year before that).

The cameras have also been updated. Although the upgrade is not as significant as the Ultra’s, there are some significant adjustments made internally. For instance, the Camera RAW app can now fully use the primary camera by shooting at 50MP resolution (up from 12MP on the S22 series).

That camera still has a 50MP sensor, and the new chipset allows it to record 8K video at 30 frames per second (up from 24fps last year). The 3x 10MP telephoto camera and the 12MP ultra-wide camera (120° FoV) are basically unchanged.
