Mahmood Yakubu, chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), says accreditation figures and results will now be transmitted simultaneously on election day.

Speaking to journalists after monitoring mock accreditations in some polling units in Abuja, on Saturday, Yakubu said such simultaneous transmission would ensure the figures correlate.

He said although the commission would not comment on the court judgement of the Osun governorship election because it amounts to subjudice, it has learnt some lessons.

“However, in every situation, the commission learns, carries the experience from what has happened to improve the processes for the next election,” the INEC chairman said.

“We have learned some lessons from what happened and one of the lessons is to be able to transmit the accreditation data.”

He said INEC created a new uniform resource locator (URL) on its results viewing portal where both the accreditation figure and results could be viewed.

“We are going to transmit both the accreditation figures and the results on election day,” he said.

“We are giving assurance to Nigerians that on election day, both the accredited data and the actual votes cast will be transmitted simultaneously and accurately.”

“We have also made contingency arrangements like we will do on election day, that there is a spare machine in case and in the unlikely event of a malfunction, we will be able to respond and fix the machines.”

Meanwhile, speaking with TheCable, Rotimi Oyekanmi, spokesperson to the INEC chairman, said this is the first time the commission will begin to transmit accreditation data.

“We’ll upload the result sheet like before and then the accreditation data of each polling unit will also be uploaded so that people can match the number of those accredited to the number of votes cast,” he said.

Who remembers Professor Bello Ahmed Salim? He's a one-time JAMB Registrar who used a chopper to supervise JAMB exams at many centres across Nigéria on the exam day? I respect that man because he did an awesome job at JAMB. It's even lachrymose to know that Professor Dibu Ojerinde replaced Professor Salim and started looting JAMB money! 🥱

By the way, I think Mahmood should take a cue from Bello Ahmed Salim by supervising this election himself. It's not as it he's doing anything that day because his subordinates will do all the work.

He needs to go beyond Abuja and see what's happening across states in Nigeria, especially in rural communities and riverine areas to be sure there are no hitches in the polling units he can visit. Like Bello Ahmed Salim, he should monitor this election with daredevil security operatives.

We don’t want to hear any nonsense synchronization talks.

Conduct free and fair election and we are confident Jagaban will be elected the next president of the federal republic of Nigeria.

Seems like we're gradually getting there. With this news, APC should be more worried cos rigging mechanism has been rendered useless. Now Oshiomole can no longer boast saying whoever can't bear the pains of rigging shouldn't delve into politics.

You didn't get the message clearly I believe. INEC is admitting that it didn't transmit accreditation results simultaneously with the votes, meaning the over-voting claims APC relied upon wasn't true, hence the many canceled votes that gave PDP advantage were actually valid votes.
Another point that backs this is INEC chairman's revelation that because of what they experienced in Osun state, they have created a new URL which can perform better, transmitting both accreditations and results simultaneously same day. This is a solution to the scenario APC collected certified true copies of accreditations from INEC's backend server but the record so issued wasn't complete because of the inadequacy of the initial process, now it has an effective solution.

If the accreditation and voting data can be transmitted simultaneously, why then is the need for synchronization? At least, Nigerians can now see that the synchronization excuse was nothing but a lie. The Osun election was rigged for PDP and they got caught pants down.
