*OPEN LETTER TO THE PRESIDENT OF NIGERIA*
7th of February, 2023

HIS EXCELLENCY
PRESIDENT MUHAMMADU BUHARI
FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA
ABUJA, NIGERIA.

Mr. President,

NIGERIANS EXPRESS WORRY OVER HARDSHIP FACED BY NIGERIANS ON NATIONWIDE SCARCITY OF NEW NAIRA NOTES & FUEL SHORTAGE

It has become important for us as citizens who are concerned about the peace and security of our country, and also the overall well-being of our people, to address the growing twin-matter of National concern as regards the poor disbursement of new naira notes by our banks and also the scarcity of fuel which are both essential daily needs for Nigerians at all levels.
Mr. President, we are aware that your administration owes it to Nigerians across the country to respond adequately to our concerns and agitations especially when it affects our day-to-day operations and survival as citizens of this great nation.
Firstly, to start with our most recent and pressing concern, we must bring to your notice, Mr. President, that there is a rising hardship among Nigerians triggered by the unfathomable scarcity of our supposed legal tender, the naira currency, in commercial banks across Nigeria.
This has become a trend since Thursday, 15th of December 2022 when the redesigned ₦200, ₦500 and ₦1000 notes were approved for circulation by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). The scarcity of this new notes became a lot more obvious after the 31st of January which was initially declared as the date which the old notes will no longer be regarded as a legal tender.
It has come to our notice that the Godwin Emefiele-led CBN has refused to live up to its responsibility in the disbursement of cash to commercial banks who should in turn make the cash available to Nigerian citizens like ourselves. It must be said that there is absolutely no justification for the scarcity of cash being faced by Nigerians across the country and the CBN must take full responsibility for what has been an abysmal policy implementation by the body.
Mr. President, for over 2 weeks now, Nigerians have been enduring long queues at ATM points and banks to no avail. We have been unable to access our own hard earned money over the counter in banks and even at ATMs.
As concerned Nigerians, we must let you know that we cannot continue to endure this for long. The CBN Governor in person of Godwin Emefiele has abused the trust of Nigerians on many occasions and this situation is another of such, as he has once again plunged Nigerians into another round of hardship.
It is unfortunate that the CBN Governor is allegedly being used by as a tool in the hands of political saboteurs to suffer Nigerians and deprive us of access to cash for political gains and troubleshooting.
Mr. President, while we understand that this another season of political strategies, schemes and machinations, we must let you know that Nigerians will not be used as pawns in the chess game of politicians.
Your Excellency sir, you must preserve your legacy of fairness, equity and justice and in doing this, it is important that all concerned stakeholders, perceived saboteurs and political jobbers with perceived involvement in this naira scarcity sabotage are called to order before it is to late.
The CBN must also be ready to take action and raise sanctions where necessary towards ensuring that the new notes are being adequately disbursed and circulated among Nigerians.
Another issue that must be strongly addressed is the ongoing fuel scarcity which has also become an obvious threat to economic and social sustainability across the country.
Mr. President, there is no justifiable reason why citizens of a oil producing nation like Nigeria should be experiencing fuel crisis as serious as we have it right now for an extended period of time. For months now, fuel queues have resumed at our filling stations across the country and it is biting harder as filling stations are now openly selling fuel above the official pump price.
It has also become evidently clear to us that this is another attempt by political game-masters to suffer Nigerians for selfish political gains and propaganda aimed at inciting Nigerians against the current administration.
We understand that since 2015 when this administration assumed power at the center, Nigerians have witnessed a commendable disappearance of fuel queues in our petrol stations across the country. Hence, the sudden return of these queues only a few months to elections calls for deep worry and concern.
Mr. President, it is clear to us that the current scarcity of fuel being faced by Nigerians at the moment is artificially induced by fuel marketers and political jobbers.
We hereby urge you to take this as an urgent call to action towards ensuring that whatever must be done to put an end this discrepancies being perpetrated under your watch. Also, as a matter of recommendation, if the removal of subsidy is what will make fuel available and accessible to Nigerians, then let it be done with immediate effect.
In conclusion, as we approach the general elections, Mr. President, it is important that you protect and preserve your legacy through fairness, equity, transparency and justice. There are no doubts about your integrity and commitment to the peace of this country, but you must also be mindful of saboteurs within your circle who may want to ruin your goodwill in faces of well-meaning Nigerians.
We are counting on you to do what is best for the growth of our nation, and for the hope of the masses.
God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria!!!
