The Director-General, NYSC, Brig. Gen. Yushau Dogara Ahmed has congratulated the 2023 Batch A Stream 1 Corps Members on their completion of the first phase of the service year, saying that they should maintain the spirit of patriotism as they embark on the next phase of the service year.

The Director General, who was represented by the State Coordinator, NYSC Osun State, Mrs. Olayinka Abdulwahab said this while delivering his farewell address at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Ede, on Tuesday.

"I urge you to sustain the spirit of patriotism," he said, adding that the hard work and resilience they imbibed during the Orientation Course should be replicated in order for them to serve their motherland selflessly.

On their acceptance of the outcome of their letters of posting, Ahmed told Corps Members that they should accept their postings in good faith, reminding them of the oath of allegiance they took while enlisting.

Speaking on being good Ambassadors of the Scheme, he told them to perform their duties with diligence and also be guided by the provisions of the Scheme's Bye-laws and Act.

The Director General further enjoined Corps Members to avail themselves of the SAED post-camp trainings as it will empower them to be self-reliant, stating that the good report from the Scheme on the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme is encouraging.

On the general elections and Corps Members participation, she said the involvement of NYSC in past elections have contributed to the credibility of the nation's electoral process. He further advised the Corps Members that as they partake as adhoc personnel they should adhere to the guidelines of the Electoral Act and also by the rules of engagement.

In closing, Brig. Gen. Ahmed advised Corps Members to travel safe and only when permitted to, stating that they should disabuse their minds from night trips and risky adventures.

"I would like to warn you against unauthorized journeys. If permitted to travel, you must avoid night trips. Travelling at night will not only increase the risk of accident, but also make rescue difficult."

The three weeks Orientation Course is one of the four cardinal programmes of the NYSC Scheme which Corps Members are expected to complete before they are eligible for the Certificate of National Service (CNS).
