What Do You Know About Orthodox Christians? by davidkingsley59(m): 6:23am On Feb 16, 2023
The Orthodox Church consists historically of the local Churches of the Eastern Roman empire, including Constantinople, Alexandria, Antioch and Jerusalem, as well as the Churches that came into being as a result of their missions. During the first millennium of Christianity, this communion included the Church of Rome. It is important to remember that the Orthodox and Roman Catholic Churches, as well as Rome's Protestant offshoots, all share a common ancestry in the one, universal Christian communion of the early centuries.

The Christian mission, as it is described by Luke in Acts and in Paul's Epistles, spread rapidly through the territories of the Roman empire. Orthodox tradition holds that it spread beyond the Roman world even in the apostolic period, with St Thomas travelling as far as southern India, converting many people along the way. Most of the more distant missions, such as Georgia, Armenia and Ethiopia, however, were probably achieved in the fourth or fifth centuries after the Roman empire had finally adopted Christianity as its state religion, following the conversion of Constantine I. By this time, the Church, which had earlier been an illegal, minority organisation within a predominantly pagan society, was slowly becoming the dominant force in shaping government laws and social traditions. The Roman empire, consisting of its Eastern and Western halves, became a fully Christian state: it was believed to be sanctioned by God, with its emperors or kings fulfilling special duties as God's representatives in the secular realm.

1. Interesting stories! undecided

2. Christianity, a religion built atop of the doctrines and theories of men, and nothing of Jesus Christ, is what the states in question adopted. Let's not confuse the two! Jesus Christ is an agreement between individuals and God meaning that no state or people's can adopt the agreement that is Jesus Christ -- only individuals can and those individuals are those who are then said to belong to the Vine -- the Church-- that is Jesus Christ. States, groups and denominations even cannot belong on the Vine.. undecided

3. God does not sanction empires under Jesus Christ, His New Covenant and Law in the Kingdom of God, the Nation of Priests which God promised to make of His people Israel -- Exodus 19 vs 6. Whatever sanctioned Rome claims to have doesn't come from God nor Jesus Christ . The only representatives that God has sent out are the individual followers of Jesus Christ, those who live their lives in continuous submission and obedience to the teachings and commandments of Jesus Christ, God's Law and another thing they all have in common is that they are all of the blood of Jacob - Matthew 15 vs 24 & Matthew 7 vs 6 undecided

According to National Geographic;

On July 16, 1054, Patriarch of Constantinople Michael Cerularius was excommunicated from the Christian church based in Rome, Italy. Cerularius’s excommunication was a breaking point in long-rising tensions between the Roman church based in Rome and the Byzantine church based in Constantinople (now called Istanbul). The resulting split divided the European Christian church into two major branches: the Western Roman Catholic Church and the Eastern Orthodox Church. This split is known as the Great Schism, or sometimes the “East-West Schism” or the “Schism of 1054.”

The Great Schism came about due to a complex mix of religious disagreements and political conflicts. One of the many religious disagreements between the western (Roman) and eastern (Byzantine) branches of the church had to do with whether or not it was acceptable to use unleavened bread for the sacrament of communion. (The west supported the practice, while the east did not.) Other objects of religious dispute include the exact wording of the Nicene Creed and the Western belief that clerics should remain celibate.

These religious disagreements were made worse by a variety of political conflicts, particularly regarding the power of Rome. Rome believed that the pope—the religious leader of the western church—should have authority over the patriarch—the religious authority of the eastern church. Constantinople disagreed. Each church recognized their own leaders, and when the western church eventually excommunicated Michael Cerularius and the entire eastern church. The eastern church retaliated by excommunicating the Roman pope Leo III and the Roman church with him.

While the two churches have never reunited, over a thousand years after their split, the western and eastern branches of Christianity came to more peaceable terms. In 1965, Pope Paul VI and Patriarch Athenagoras I lifted the longstanding mutual excommunication decrees made by their respective churches.

Today, the two branches of Christianity remain distinct expressions of a similar faith. Roman Catholicism is the single largest Christian denomination, with more than a billion followers around the world. Eastern Orthodoxy is the second-largest Christian denomination, with more than 260 million followers. Eastern Orthodoxy includes national churches, such as the Greek Orthodox Church and Russian Orthodox Church.

Yes it was a blessing to Africa because the number of African community elites that were educated grew and they started coming together one way or another to strive for em independence
Some were even taken to their country to try and teach and educate them in their own ways the French colonial administration did this a lot
There are advantages and disadvantages to this thing
You want to look at the British colonial records all over the globe with so many atrocities committed and tell me they are a blessing to Africa

1. Education is blessing and much like any other blessing it does not guarantee progress to those who unwisely approach it. You can have a water cistern toilet in your house but if you dont clean and maintain it regularly, your toilet will likely become as disgusting and as terrible as an unwashed pit toilet. undecided

2. Nigerians where not the only ones colonized on this planet so it is insane to whine about it at this point in time. undecided

I’m not talking about just Nigeria I’m talking about their atrocities and widespread human rights violations all over the globe with their current and previous administration evading such cases
Even the Kenya Mau Mau has a case against them same as the Indians too

You have no point w it the unwashed toilet point because at one point they were also not civilized and
Even the countries that were not colonized are advance as of now
You should read about great Zimbabwe 🇿🇼
