House Leader: We'll Abide by PDP Decision, Says Tanbuwal

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Aminu Tambuwal at the weekend said members of the house would not go against the decision of the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the selection of Leader of the House already zoned to the South-west by the party.

Tanbuwal, who spoke with newsmen at Ilorin International Airport after his two-day visit to Kwara state, said that was the only position yet to be filled by the House.

“There is no cause for alarm as the house would sincerely look at it and conclude on it when the House resumes on Tuesday," he said.

Tambuwal, however, said the selection of the Leader of House would not create any problems as members were united and would not do anything that might hinder the peace and unity of the country.

The speaker, who pledged that the lower chamber of the National Assembly would pursue people-oriented agenda when it reconvenes, said Nigerians should expect a vibrant parliament.

“We'll discuss issues that affect our people dispassionately for the common good of Nigeria,” he said.

It will be recalled that acting national chairman of the
PDP, Alhaji Kawu Baraje, had said in a recent interview in Ilorin that the position of the Leader of the House had been zoned to the South-west, thereby foreclosing a return of the position of the Speaker of the House to the geo-political zone as was being campaigned for by former President and chairman of Board of Trustees (BoT) of the party, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo.

Obasanjo had in a meeting in Ogun State recently said the zone would reclaim the position of speaker of the House originally zoned to the region by the PDP.
