We have seen them make good their threats. . .are they going to start targeting our schools?

Boko Haram Threatens To Bomb Ui, Other Varsities

By OLA AJAYI

THE authorities of the University of Ibadan have confirmed the threat by members suspected to be Boko Haram sect that they wanted to bomb the university between 12 and 17 September.

The rumour was confirmed, Monday by the  Acting Vice Chancellor of the university, Pro. Elijah Afolabi Bamigboye.

The threat led to panic among staff and students of the institution as  there was heavy security presence at the main entrance to the university,  opposite Agbowo Shopping Complex.

Many staff and visitors going into the campus were subjected to thorough search by security operatives who were armed with AK 47 rifles and bullet proof jackets.

Prof. Bamigboye who said he too was subjected to the search said security beef-up was necessary to check any eventuality.

“We heard rumours that a group which detests education is likely to descend on institutions where education is being imparted. We heard that U.I is top on the list. When we heard the rumour of  the threat to bomb U.I, we did not want to take chances. We’ve heard of experiences in the past, especially the recent bombing of the UN house in Abuja as well as the Force headquarters which left several people dead”.

They should leave the SW and come to ND. We are begging them to come and bomb our land, it is taking them too long. We want to chase Hausa from NNPC. We need this opportunity.

Re: Rumor: Boko Haram To Bomb University of Ibadan In September by kpogede77: 8:35pm On Sep 12, 2011
The mood of the people here is that we should fight this fight once and for all let every body go his separate ways. Bombing SW will not get the kind of reaction needed to split this country. We were here when Libya started the journey to their freedom, they have freedom now why do we keep delaying some thing that is inevitable?
Every body here in my domain are ready to fight both the rich and the poor.
I said so because SW may consider Islam in dealing with the enemy but here we have no consideration for them.
If Libya is not better than Nigeria  in spite of the war why did Nigerians living there refuse to come home during the war

Don't forget, it says UI and OTHER Universities! So what other universities? This is the beginning of the end of Nigeria as we know it. Whoever thinks an attack on SW will not get a swift and violent reaction should think twice! The SW had a powerful Kingdom before the existence of Nigeria!

All because of a weak president. The ultimate responsibility for this mess is his.

and what did the "oh so mighty", Yar'a dua do about boko haram when he was in office?

what did he do about the various "uprisings" by northern mobs who burnt churches and slaughtered families

and what have any of the regional northern "leaders" say in response these incidents

I'll help you with the last one, they said "boko haram does not exist, its created by the West"

GEJ should come down strongly on these terrorist but he can't do it without the help of Northern leaders speaking out against these jihadists.

Unless you have cerebral block or selective amnesia, it was Yar'adua who has taken the most decisive action so far against the group. In July 2009 he sent in federal troups who virtually obliterated the group leading to the killing of its leader Yusuf and over 700 of its followers.

Truth is, the Northern Leaders/Elders have not helped the president that much, they have been near silent on the issue. The other day i saw on tv that they are organizing a special session of the Northern Governors' Forum to discuss Jos, one wonders why Boko Haram and their senseless threats isn't on the agenda, An attack in the South is an attack taken too far, like kpogede said, let them try the ND for size, and they will live to regret it, I just pity the poor mallams hustling down south just to make a living, Let the battle for the soul of Naija begin,

The Yoruba empire extended into todays Togo and Benin republic but thats not the issue now. How do we solve this BK matter since it will ultimately affect the whole nation? Seems Ghaddafi saw it coming but most people thought he was crazy. God save our country!

If student life is as it was during the last decades, then I have nothing to fear. If UI has a strong student union liaising well with the student religion bodies, they can easily curtail the BH boys.
However, I urge every student of the great UI to be vigilant. Moreso, knowing that BH specialises in car bombs, I think it is better to restrict vehicular movement within the university and only 'certified' vehicles should be allowed in.  I also suggest a check-point for vehicles is set up further from the entrances of UI both at the Agbowo entrance and Barika junction and other entrances. UI is a large institution with very porous borders, but only few vehicular access points.
The UI central mosque governing body needs to be vigilant. UI boasts of very brilliant people in charge of its MSSN and I have full confidence in their ability to fish out any suspicious members amongst them.
Moreover, other tertiary institutions in Nigeria should be extra vigilant. SW especially as we are very accomodating. Ibadan Poly, Lead City Uni, School of Nursing, School of Hygiene, etc should also be vigilant. BH is our collective problem and only togetherness can solve it.

Nigerians , We should stop thinking myopic and reason logically to the cause of our problem, We shd always remember that we are still Nigerians irrespective of tribe , religion and ethnicity, Boko haram to me is only known on the air, Since uptill date there is no physical evidence of trace to their existence, our govt have a great challenge of finding out who these pple are , what are there aims etc, Nt for us to start making sentimental comments against the sovereignty of our nation, we shd reaso logically why the CIA and the US said that Nigeria is going to break up by 2015, What kind of comment is that, ? We shd always pray that our leaders face the challenges before them with utmost attention, Nigeria is a country we must all love , It is our fatherland, We shd protect its integrity, and leave thinking to those who have senses,
