The APC Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) has come out to say that the Party's flag-bearer, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is not in any way against the cashless policy of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

Speaking in an interview session at the weekend in Abuja, on speculations that the naira swap implementation by the CBN was aimed at truncating Tinubu's chances at the poll, Mr Bayo Onanuga, Director, Media and Publicity of the PCC, said Tinubu was only concerned about the effects of the naira swap and petroleum scarcity on the masses.

He said while the APC presidential candidate was not against the cashless drive of the apex bank, the timing for its implementation was however wrong.

Onanuga said the naira swap and fuel scarcity crises coming at the same time was not good for the party and the country's democracy, adding that Tinubu was however right to have spoken against it.

"He (Tinubu) went to Abeokuta to speak about it that he's suspecting some kind of sabotage from those he called the fifth columnist. We had reports of fuel being diverted to neighboring countries where these saboteurs are making a lot of money, sometimes twice or three times the price that NNPC is selling fuel in Nigeria.

"Our candidate made this an issue and alerted government. That government should find a solution. I can report that as at today Abuja does not have problem of fuel anymore. I learned that in Lagos fuel scarcity has also eased. I'm sure in other parts of the country fuel will soon be delivered to many stations and this crisis will be over.

"For the currency swap, as the CBN calls it, our candidate is not against a cashless economy. He's an accountant. He understands how these things work. He knows the benefits to the economy. But he reels against the policy coming at this time - some few weeks to elections. Of course you have seen the public resentment against it.

"The CBN is expected to collect N3.3trillion from Nigerians, and I learned as at the last count close to N3trillion has been collected by commercial banks. And now what has the CBN offered in return? N400billion, some say N600billion. This is the grossly inadequate. You have taken about N3trillion and you are returning to the economy N600billion believing N600billion is enough to take care of the cash you are withdrawing, and is N600billion enough to enforce a cashless economy in Nigeria. This is an unmitigated disaster. The CBN has shown that it doesn't know what it was doing otherwise it would not have embarked on this programme at this point in time," he said.

The PCC Media and Publicity Director said it was also tempting for one to assume that the CBN policy was not done in good faith, because according to him, the apex financial institution was no more apolitical since its Governor once attempted to contest for the presidency.

Speaking further, he said the aftermaths of the policy were quite obvious as Nigerians were now going through hell to access cash as little as N5,000 from the bank.

Onanuga wondered how the CBN cashless policy is expected to work in a country where about 60 per cent of the population do not have bank accounts and rely heavily on cash to transact their daily businesses.

He, however, added that the decision of the CBN to pursue cashless policy was based on faulty and erroneous statistics that could not be validated against reality.

Suddenly,Tinubu is concerned about a currency swap on the masses? What have Tinubu ever done about the senseless Killings by terrorists, economic blockade, protracted ASUU strike, multiple cases of human rights/rule of law abuse under the same Buhari-led APC government he proudly claimed he enthroned?

Whao! Suddenly Tinubu is no more again Buhari stimulated but CBN executed currency policy? Fear have set in. Reality is more clearer.

Suddenly the CBN "does not know what it is doing"? Meaning it is grossly incompetent? Does Bayo Onanuga fully know that he is insulting the president who solely appointed the CBN chair despite it is a well known fact that both the CBN chair and Buhari have been a disaster a long time ago?

Suddenly "the apex financial institution was no more apolitical since its Governor once attempted to contest for the presidency."? Why didn't the APC opposed Godwin Emefiele when he abused his office by contesting the APC presidential primary? Guess this senseless Bayo Onanuga were tolerating the lawlessness being established then? So why the sudden volte face today?

Tinubu is damn too arrogant. He never knew a day would come when he will have to be humble.
