A US judge sentenced disgraced R&B singer R. Kelly to 20 years in prison on Thursday for child p0rn0graphy and other charges – but he will serve most of that time alongside his previous conviction there.


Kelly, 56, will serve 30 years in prison after a Brooklyn grand jury in a separate federal trial convicted him of fraud and sex trafficking.
The judge in Chicago – Kelly’s hometown, where he was once considered a source of pride – ruled that most of the new sentences will be served at the same time as the previous one, except forone year a time.


The fact that Kelly will serve a maximum of 31 years in prison is a victory for the defense, which emphasized in the sentencing statement that “a concurrent sentence is what fairness demands,” accusing the prosecution of engaging in a “quest to ensure that Kelly never sees the light of day.”
