President Goodluck Jonathan has dissolved the Board of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).

This was contained in a terse press statement issued ,Tuesday, by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) Senator Anyim Pius Anyim.

According to Anyim, the President also directed the Managing Director and other members of the Executive of the Commission to hand over all the commission’s property in their possession to the Director of Administration and Human Resources, Mrs Osaro Areyenka with immediate effect.

The statement read as follows: “Following the conclusion of the assignment of the Presidential Committee to look into the problems facing the NDDC and subsequent submission of the report of the Committee, the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan GCFR, after due consideration of the report has approved the dissolution of the Board of NDDC with effect from today 13th September, 2011.

A new Board for the Commission would be reconstituted soon.

The Managing Director and other Executive members are to hand over all commission’s items in their custody to the Director of Administration and Human Resources, Mrs Osato Areyenka”.

The problem with that region in not the commision but the inabilities of the locals to change their mentality of dependence on government and succeed for themselves! Ekwusigom ka oram.

The Niger Delta folks are just the problem of the Niger Delta. Upon all the hardship and injustice in that region our people are now there to add to it.


NDDC awarded a road contract in my village to a contractor from a neighboring village. The guy swallowed the whole money and nobody queried him. The same road was re-awarded to another contractor from my village. The guy did a very dirty job, as I speak to you now the road is in a sorry state, the rain has washed off all the tar. [/b]I confronted him for doing a bad job, one of his cohorts opened his mouth to say. Abeg leave that matter, the man tried, the other contractor did nothing while he has something o show for the money given to him. The idiots is now building a mansion in the same village. Can you imagine. NDDC does not supervise most of the contracts the awarded. NDDC is a failure!

Everyone that has an opportunity to grab a position/contacts or what have you in NDDC sees it as an opportunity to cut their own slice of the cake.
