A few years ago, shortly after Governor Obaseki’s emergence as Edo’s new helmsman, I had an encounter with a young man who had lived in Edo State most of his life and was also very active politically. The young man, a second-class upper Civil Engineering graduate from the great UNIBEN, told me of how he and his coursemate had become so disillusioned by what was prevailing at that time; a period where agberos and touts seemed to have become beacons of success in Edo State. He said that all they dreamt of was how they would be given spots around Ring Road to collect levies from transporters.
In other words, these young men, despite the fact that they had graduated with very good grades in their respective disciplines, had become so disillusioned that all they dreamt of was to become agberos, because agberos and touts ruled the day as it were. All thanks to Governor Obaseki, that narrative has changed today in Edo State. Unfortunately, this is exactly the case in Lagos, where a certain MC Oluomo, has become so emboldened that he wants to be crowned Oba of Oshodi. Perhaps, with his master, #BrigandTinubu as President of Nigeria, he may insist that he's made Minister of Transportation.
This is the kind of society that they are trying to bring back to Edo State. A society where agberos and land grabbers reign supreme, emboldened by leaders who use them to wreak havoc and terror in society; arm them with all manners of sophisticated weapons to cause mayhem, maim and slaughter innocent citizens during elections, and then fail to retrieve these arms from them after the electioneering season, thus, saddling society with the burden of a sophisticatedly armed group of scoundrels.
We must resist them in Edo by voting wisely and voting for PDP on March 11, 2023. A vote against PDP is technically a vote for APC in Edo.
